Much like her success, Jennifer Lopez’s perfectly highlighted honey-brown hair hasn’t wavered over the years. The secret? Tracey Cunningham, who’s been the actress and singer’s go-to colorist for upwards of 15 years.
“She’s always been a honey brown,” Cunningham told Allure of Lopez’s signature hue. “Sometimes, I add in some more blonde highlights—that just blends in so well with the honey and light brown.”

While replicating the color is totally do-able no matter your hair texture, Cunningham warns that it does some with a lot of upkeep. “A color like [hers] does require maintenance and maintenance requires money.” If you’re after color like Jenny’s, Cunningham suggests a touch-up every six weeks.
Lucky for us, the colorist shared the exact (hard-to-decipher) formula behind J.Lo’s color on Instagram. (Pro tip: Bring this to your colorist, but remember that it’s important to adjust the hue to perfectly compliment YOUR skin tone.) “Her #haircolor formula is @redken chromatics 8n+7n>20vol hairline base 7n/1/2+6nw/1/2>10vol,” Cunningham shared to her 328,000 Instagram followers.
