With the right doctor behind the needle, filler has no age limit. However, some fillers are better suited for mature skin than others. For example, both Delray Beach, FL dermatologist Dr. Janet Allenby and West Palm Beach, FL dermatologist Kenneth Beer, MD. advise against using thicker fillers on mature skin, as they’re more inclined to result in bumps.
“In mature skin, we have to be careful of what fillers we use if the patient has severe thinning of the tissue,” explains Dr. Allenby. If you’re looking to get filler, schedule an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist to discuss what’s best for you. To get informed ahead of time, see what fillers our experts recommend for mature skin.

Hyaluronic acid fillers
Miami dermatologist Deborah Longwill, MD tends to recommend hyaluronic acid filler for mature skin “for a synergistic approach to achieving the best natural cosmetic appearance.” Dr. Beer points to JUVÉDERM, Restylane, Belotero and RHA. “I think they are perfect for mature skin because there are several variants, so you can select a density and thickness for mature skin, which tends to be thin and dry. They also attract water and can improve dry, scaly skin such as the lower lip.”
The JUVÉDERM line
Dr. Longwill likes the JUVÉDERM line, noting, “Vollure and Volbella are ideal for addressing fine lines and wrinkles around the lips or mouth, offering soft, flexible results that look natural even in areas with frequent movement.” She adds that SkinVive complements these “by improving skin texture, elasticity, and hydration, working to enhance overall skin quality.” Together, these products “help restore volume, smooth lines, and boost radiance for a refreshed, youthful look.”
If the skin is depleted of collagen and elastin, Dr. Allenby recommends JUVÉDERM Voluma. “Voluma provides shape that lasts a little longer than some of the other hyaluronic acids, and usually, it’s volume depletion that we’re treating.”
Sculptra
In Dr.Allenby’s experience, “mature skin tends to do better initially with Sculptra, the biostimulator filler.” She explains that “Sculptra not only thickens up the thinning tissue, but also creates more glow to the skin, and you can even get some facial shaping from it.”
