If you’re not one of the lucky few to be genetically blessed with perfect brows—you know, the ones that have that just right arch and are full but not overtly thick—that doesn’t mean they can’t be had. It just comes down to finding a good brow expert who can tell you what shape best suits your face and then growing in (or out) your brows so that they look perfect. We turned to Benefit Cosmetics, the self-professed leader in brows, for the low down on how to get four of the most distinctive brow styles of the moment (of course, you can visit any Benefit BrowBar or Benefit boutique across the country to get your brows whipped into shape, too).

The style: Bold and angular brows

What it looks like: This brow style has crisp and defined lines with an emphasis on the arch and a gentle taper toward the end.

How to get it: Bailey says to start with Benefit Brow Zings ($32) and dip a little bit of powder onto a brush. Line the brush up with the inner dimple of your nose going straight up until it meets the brow—this is where your brow should begin. Hold the brush at the outside corner of your nose and angle it until the handle passes the center pupil and the tip of the brush touches the highest portion of your eyebrow. Keep the base of the brush at the outside corner of the nose and angle the tip of the brush so that it lines up with the outer corner of your eye—this is where your brow should end. Finally, create a solid line along the base of the brow and blend a brow wax up to the top. Fill in any sparse or patchy areas by stippling in the powder. Glide Benefit High Brow ($22) under the brows and pat to soften it.

The style: The feathered brow

What it looks like: A natural-looking brow shape with emphasis on texture and an upward styling

How to get it: According to Jared Bailey, Benefit global brow expert, trimming the brows is essential for this look. “You want to leave the hairs long enough to be styled and overdirected.” This style is all about simulating texture, so you’ll need to use a good brow pencil in two different shades, like Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil ($24). Bailey says to use the color that’s the true match to give a base shape. Then, use a pencil two shades deeper and flick upward through the brow toward the hairline, creating tiny hair-like strokes. Set with a clear gel, placing it gently over the hair upward and out following the hairline.

The style: Natural brows

What it looks like: Clean with fluid lines along the perimeter of the brow and smooth, round edges for a groomed look.

How to get it: Bailey says that waxing or tweezing is key here to clean up the natural shape of the brows. When it comes to products for a natural-looking brow, he says to look for those that create a natural wash of color throughout the brow, like Benefit Goof Proof ($24). “To give the brow believable volume, blend brow fibers into the brow to create texture.”

The style: A straight brow

What it looks like: A linear shape along the base of the brow with a slight peak at the arch.

How to get it: Again, waxing or tweezing the brows are best for achieving this look because Bailey says they create a clean linear shape with the orbital bone as the guide. When using products to create this look, Bailey says to start by creating a baseline along the orbital bone to straighten out the brow with a cream-gel brow product like Benefit Ka-Brow! ($24). “Next, add subtle highlights throughout to add dimension with Benefit 3D Browtones ($24).”
