I consider the beauty mark I have to the right of lips to be a trademark, a signature I just can’t see myself without. It’s such an international symbol of glamour-thanks, Cindy-that I’ve gotten two other perfectly healthy facial moles removed so my “main” one could have the spotlight. (Both have since grown back, and I plan on getting them removed all over again.)
A mole on a man doesn’t have quite the same allure. Enrique Iglesias, despite his handsomeness, was mocked for years about the one on his cheek until he had it removed. And recently, another attractive male celebrity has had a prominent mole removed: Ewan McGregor.
I’ve never thought of the Scottish star as self-conscious. He’s always seemed far less vain than many celebrities, especially after that motorcycling-around-the-world miniseries where he sported the Grizzly Adams look. But sometime in the last few months, while he was laying low between projects, McGregor had the mole on his forehead, which we had come to expect and accept, removed.
Perhaps this wasn’t an uncharacteristic act of vanity; perhaps his dermatologist recommended the removal. Either way, he hasn’t talked about it yet. But although he looks great without it, I’ll miss him at our secret Facial Mole Club meetings. At least we’ve still got Sarah Jessica Parker and Rebecca Gayheart.
