Philosophy

Utilizing a personalized approach to facial rejuvenation, Dr. Min S. Ahn focuses on using minimally invasive surgical procedures. “By providing each patient with a personalized treatment plan, I am able to restore youthfulness, as well as enhance the natural beauty of each individual,” he says. “Some of these minimally invasive procedures include the mini-facelift, necklift, small-incision browlift, fat transfer, facial volumization, and combination therapy using the Fraxel® laser.” Dr. Ahn, who graduated with honors from both Harvard University and the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, strongly believes in personalized care coupled with cutting-edge techniques at his Boston-area Aesthetic Wellness Center.

About My Practice

Why do you employ a less-is-more philosophy?

While there is no substitute for more extensive procedures, we can help curtail the aging process through less-invasive treatments.

Do you perform any pro bono procedures?

I frequently volunteer with organizations like the face to face domestic violence program. These women have been through so much. It's truly a privilege to be a part of their healing process. I am also involved with faces of honor, another program of the american academy of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, where i perform complimentary surgery for veterans and active military personnel who were injured in battle.

How would you summarize your philosophy?

I believe less can be more and therefore routinely adopt less-invasive surgical techniques, and sometimes even noninvasive protocols, to rejuvenate youth.

A Minute With

  1. My greatest achievement

Creating a world-class center for facial rejuvenation outside of Boston where people from around the world come for their care

  2. The future of my field

Combining preventive, functional medicine with surgical and nonsurgical treatment options

  3. The most outrageous medical myth i've heard

Nonsurgical tightening procedures will give you a result similar to a facelift

  4. My motto

There is inherent beauty in doing things well

  5. What sets my practice apart

Complementary surgical and nonsurgical therapies that are cutting-edge and more effective when used in combination

  6. The biggest misconception about my field

If you have a facelift, you will always look pulled

  7. What i love most about my profession

Being unencumbered by the negative trends that affect most of medicine today. I am not constricted by time
or third parties dictating patient care. I can focus on the needs of each patient

  8. What is your career changing procedure?

Though more technically difficult, incorporating the deep plane technique to facelifts has been a true game changer.

  9. Most memorable patient reaction

Seeing a patient’s demeanor change as a direct result of a greater sense of confidence after a facelift or rhinoplasty

  10. What surgical advancement are you most excited about?

I now use Artiss®, a tissue sealant, at
the end of all my mini-facelifts and
    facelifts, which has eliminated
the need for drains and resulted
    in less post-operative bruising
    and swelling

FAQs

  1. What is Sculptra used for?
    What our experts say:

It's a nice way of adding volume to the face, cheeks, temples and jaw. It's a different approach where volume is gradually restored, and it lasts up to two years. It stimulates collagen formation in the face.

  2. What is a MACS lift?
    What our experts say:

It's a type of facelift that stands for Minimal Access Cranial Suspension Lift, and has been popularized by a plastic surgeon in Belgium named Patrick Tonnard. It's a short-incision technique that relies on purse string suturing to lift the muscle layer and the jowl and to tighten the upper neck. It's just another way of lifting the muscle layer. It's very effective for lifting the jowl, but less effect if there are jowl and significant neck issues. If they have that as well, then they need work done on the neck through a neck lifting procedure.

  3. Are injectable fillers painful when injected?
    What our experts say:

They're painful, unless the area is numb, and we numb it first. There are different grades of numbness. Icing is commonly all that is needed for the tear troughs and cheeks. For lips, you need at least a numbing cream and usually some type of local anesthetic. Lips are highly sensitive.

  4. Are laser treatments painful?
    What our experts say:

They can be. Fractioned lasers are hot and they prickle. Some anesthetic numbing cream is needed, or pills to relax the patient and make them more comfortable.

  5. How can I have a more prominent chin?
    What our experts say:

Well, that's an issue of volume, so we first have to make sure the chin is truly the issue. Sometimes, it's a full neck that makes the chin looks weak. But if it is the chin, we can increase the projection using filler or a chin implant, a solid silicone specifically designed implant for the chin. The ones used today look very natural.

Testimonials

"During Thanksgiving week I had the Duel Fraxel treatment at Dr. Ahn's office. My results are amazing! My skin is glowing and the dark spots are gone. But I really wanted to write about my experience. Fraxel isn't the most comfortable procedure, but what made the difference for me were Rebecca and the staff at AWC. Rebecca is a nurse and has an amazing talent working with people. She explained each step of the procedure, was gentle, and followed my lead as far as the pace. Rebecca kept encouraging me by telling me "You are doing great. Take deep breaths. I know it isn't comfortable but you can do it. You will love the results!" Her voice was calm and soothing. I am a nurse too and I know how important is to receive compassionate care. After the procedure, I walked out and the staff gave me so much encouragement. What I love about AWC is that the staff has also had personal experience with some of the procedures. It makes a world of difference to know that they understand what everything feels like and can offer me the support. Everyone is professional and kind. Dr. Ahn is wonderful. I don't always see him when I go in to the office, but when I do he takes a lot of extra time with me. I feel that he truly understands what will help me look and feel great. Most importantly for me, he recommends procedures that are least invasive. I highly recommend Dr Ahn and the Aesthetic Wellness Center "
