If you were a fan of Orange Is the New Black, you were introduced to Danielle Brooks as prison inmate Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson. Last year, the award-winning actress starred in The Color Purple alongside Taraji P. Henson and Fantasia Barrino. Now, she’s working on her next big projects—TV and movies—while also focusing on her adorable 4-year-old daughter Freeya. I had a chance to chat with the leading lady, on behalf of her partnership with Pampers, about all things beauty, wellness and more.
What are your favorite beauty trends right now?
“I don’t really follow trends—I pretty much move how I want to move. But, I am keeping all my country clothing just in case. I mean come on, Cowboy Carter baby.”
Love that for you. Are you good at doing your own makeup?
“I’m pretty decent at doing my own makeup. I can always nail a good brow, but there’s nothing like having a pro-makeup artist to glam me up. When I’m not working, I’m usually wearing no makeup or very light makeup to give my face a break.”
Your skin is always GLOWING. What are your favorite products right now?
“My favorite skin care right now is OSEA. They have the best products to keep your skin moisturized, feeling soft and smelling good all day. I have to use very gentle products on my face, so Cetaphil and Bioderma have never failed me either.”
I know Tish is your go-to hairstylist. What have you learned from her over the years?
“Tish has been my hairstylist for over 10 years now and we have a beautiful working relationship. We’ve found a wonderful balance of friendship and professionalism. It’s funny because I used to be really, really good at doing my own hair before having a hairstylist, and now I’m totally spoiled and hardly even know how to do a tight bun [laughs].”
Let’s talk wellness. Do you have any daily self-care rituals?
“Beast mode in the gym. You can always find me in a fitness class. I do everything from strength training to yoga and Zumba. Also, I love taking baths at night with candles, bubbles, bath bombs—the whole nine. I would say those are my self-care rituals. Oh, and I like putting lotion on my hands and feet at night. Going to bed with rough hands is the worst.”
How do you juggle being a mom and a busy working actress?
“It’s hard keeping all of the balls in the air. It’s not always easy taking her with me out of the country. But, when she was little and I was breastfeeding, I made sure we were together while I worked. Preparation was the key, so I always had a baby snack, some baby blocks, and Pampers diapers to keep the day running smoothly. That’s why I am excited to help to introduce parents to the new Pampers Swaddlers 360o diapers. They have the same great leak and skin protection that parents love from Swaddlers, but with a new stretchy waistband. This makes them a must-have to make diaper changing easy.”
