One of the biggest open secrets in Hollywood is also one of the most popular options for smile rejuvenation: veneers. And amidst a metric ton of celebrities that probably got a major upgrade with dental veneers, there are those that have been honest about their smile journey.

What are Veneers?

Thin materials bonded to natural teeth, veneers are a standard and useful option for smile rejuvenation. That said, lots of people think you need to damage your natural teeth in order to have them fit, but that’s not exactly true.

Patients fear that their own natural teeth will be drastically damaged in order to have veneers placed, but the reality is that most veneers only require minimal to no tooth reduction,” says New York cosmetic dentist Steven Roth, DMD.

According to Houston cosmetic dentist Guy Lewis, DDS, getting veneers takes a bit of time. “The process usually takes about three weeks,” he adds, noting that he has his patients “test drive” temporary veneers to start. “During this phase, we can customize and perfect the teeth.”

Celebrity Smile Upgrades

Plenty of celebrities go on a smile-evolution journey to whiten, straighten or otherwise correct their teeth. Most of them don’t bother to share the details of this journey since, after all, it’s their mouth. This has lead many to notice that Hollywood smiles tend to look the same, and sometimes a little too perfect. You can find posts theorizing who’s had dental work done up and down the internet, with cosmetic dentists often jumping in to the conversation on TikTok to explain what stars might have had done on their teeth.

In their highly visual jobs, it makes sense to be concerned with how your teeth appear on camera. But not every smile rejuvenation was prompted by the actor themselves. In fact, Ben Affleck recently revealed that director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer demanded Affleck “be sexy” and get several thousands of dollars in dental work to fix his “baby teeth.”

Luckily, the rest of the stars on this list wanted to pursue veneers. And their honesty about their procedure has helped people determine their own path forward for dental work.

Ben Affleck

While we don’t know for sure that Affleck has veneers, we do know that he had some especially pricey dental work to get a “set” of teeth.

“We paid for a set of $20,000 pearly white teeth,” Bay says in the Armageddon commentary track. “I always liked low shots that kinda come right under your chin and make you a little bit heroic and he kinda had these baby teeth…So I told Jerry Bruckheimer, ‘God, he’s got these baby teeth, Jerry, I don’t know what to do!’ Jerry used a very famous star in a plane movie that he replaced teeth with so he said, ‘We did it to him, why not do it to Ben?’ So my dentist had Ben sitting in a dentist’s chair for a week, eight hours a day.”

Hilary Duff

Duff explained her dental work way back in 2007 with the now-dormant Jane Magazine. And while she was honest, she was also upfront.

“When I got to L.A., I got veneers. But it’s like, why is it people’s business?” Duff asks.

The reason for her veneers comes from her time performing, when she chipped her front teeth on her microphone.

“One show, I literally spit half of my two front teeth out,” Duff explains. “I was in some small town in the Northeast, at, like, the only dentist. It was 6 o’clock in the morning, and I had a whole day of work planned. So they bonded my teeth. Then there was a crowd waiting for me outside. I was so embarrassed.”

Doja Cat

Musician Doja Cat’s veneer journey began in 2021 when she decided to correct her smile. During the process, she was fitted with temporary veneers that later accidentally came out while eating a cookie.

“They had to make sections of it, as opposed to one whole section to put over the teeth for temporary use,” Doja says in an interview. “And the little pieces started to move a bit because he wanted it to look good. … This side fell out inside of a cookie the other day when I was in the car.”

But the final product, shown in an Instagram live right after the procedure, is a bespoke and bright smile.

Cardi B

We’ve known about Cardi B’s veneers since “Bodak Yellow,” where she raps that she “got a bag and fixed my teeth.”

Cardi B was open about the emotional toll her teeth were taking on her, and how her decision to get porcelain veneers improved her confidence. “If you don’t feel comfortable, if you are tired of people talking about you, then go and fix it,” Cardi explained in a video posted on the Smile Dental account. “Like, it’s alright to fix it.”

In an interview with AspireTV, her dentist confirmed that Cardi B’s veneers cost $12,500 total.

Jordyn Woods

When model and socialite Jordyn Woods was ready to say goodbye to her gap, it was veneers she chose.

The results were so positive that Woods went on to gift a smile upgrade to a deserving fan.

“I loved my smile makeover so much that I wanted to figure out how give this experience to someone else,” Woods says in a collaboration with Agoura Advanced Dentistry. “I want this to be for someone who is well deserving and no case is too hard!”
