With the right products and application technique, makeup can seriously enhance your look. But if done incorrectly, it can have the opposite effect, even going as far as making the things you were trying to hide (i.e. fine lines and wrinkles) look worse than they did before. According to makeup artist and beauty mogul, Bobbi Brown, it’s common for women—especially women with mature skin—to fall victim to the same makeup mistakes again and again, and it’s making them look years older.

“Many older women wear foundation that’s too heavy,” says Brown. “It makes the skin look drier, and I think it makes them look even older.” Luckily, this is an easy mistake to fix. “Using a tinted moisturizer [instead] is great, or I really like when you just spot-cover,” Brown explains. “Women don’t really need coverage everywhere. So, for lighter coverage, I use moisturizer and then I’ll mix one of my favorite bronzers in with a big brush and use that to kind of create a sheer tinted moisturizer.”
Not only does mixing bronzer with your favorite moisturizer give a light, natural veil of coverage to the skin, but it also saves you money because you won’t have to buy any new foundations. Talk about a win-win.
