The Beauty Mistake Kristin Cavallari Says She'll Never Forget

You may know 29-year-old Kristin Cavallari from her high school reality TV days on Laguna Beach back in 2005, but much of her life has changed since then. Now a wife (she's married to NFL quarterback Jay Cutler), a mother of three (all under the age of three!), and a successful businesswoman, there isn't much Kristin can't (and doesn't) do. In addition to raising her family, she has a shoe collection with Chinese Laundry, a jewelry line called Emerald + Duv, and she's currently wrapping up a tour for her new lifestyle book, Balancing in Heels. Here, we get a little glimpse into her world.

NewBeauty: How has your beauty routine changed since becoming a mom?
Kristin Cavallari: I’ve always been pretty no-fuss when it comes to getting ready, so I don't mind that I usually only have a few minutes to get ready in the morning. I fill in my brows and use tinted moisturizer, mascara and dry shampoo, and I'm good to go!
NB: Which beauty products could you not live without?
KC: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara, a Chanel eyebrow pencil, SK-II eye masks and rosehip oil.
NB: Can you give us a little taste of what’s in your new book?
KC: It’s a mini memoir meets advice/how-to book. It covers every area of my life: mom, wife, health, fitness, fashion, beauty, businesswoman, and there are about 20 recipes since I love to cook. It's a very open, honest book about how I live my life and how I've gotten to the place I'm at today.
KC: Dying my hair black in high school. It wasn't supposed to be permanent, but when you put black dye on blond hair, it's permanent! I had to strip my hair and slowly get back to blond so I wouldn't completely damage it.
KC: I weight train with a trainer three times a week for about 50 minutes, and two days a week I try to do DVD routines or go for a bike ride and run around with my kids.
NB: You often post your recipes on Instagram. Do you have any tips for eating healthy?
KC: Eating healthy to me means staying away from heavily processed food, so I only look at ingredient labels instead of calories or anything else. There are certain chemicals, like GMOs, high fructose corn syrup and added colors, that I just don't eat. I would suggest starting small, focusing on one chemical to stay away from until it becomes second nature, then slowly adding others to the list.
NB: How would you describe your personal style?
KC: Effortless, minimalistic and chic.
NB: What are your spring/summer wardrobe essentials?
KC: Lace-up sandals, a lightweight denim jumper and a Rag & Bone Panama Hat.
NB: What is one thing your fans would be surprised to learn about you?
KC: That I'm a homebody. I love being in sweats all day, hair in a ponytail and no makeup on, just hanging with my kids and being in bed by 9:30! I'm really boring!
NB: Do you have any guilty pleasures?
KC: Besides sweets (I have a huge sweet tooth), I would say organizing. There's nothing I love more than organizing my closet, the fridge, the kids' toys, you name it!
NB: What is one thing you want to do in your life that you haven’t done yet?
KC: I would love to do a cookbook!
