We all know how important sun protection is on a daily basis. Forgo it and you’re likely to eventually experience sunspots, lines and wrinkles, a loss of collagen, dullness, and potentially skin cancer. But let’s be honest. Finding a sunscreen that protects your skin and makes it look good is the ultimate challenge. Sure, there are plenty of great sunscreens out there, but so many of them leave skin with a white residue or a dry feeling, or worse yet, it shows under your makeup.

The struggle becomes even more real when you add primer into the mix. The “must-have” for perfect makeup, combining primer with sunscreen can either be a good or bad match—if it’s the latter, the products can start to pill and roll on your skin. I’ve had it happen to me personally one too many times, so I often forgo primer for the sake of skin safety.

Yet all of that changed when I had the opportunity to sample Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Skin Defense Primer SPF 50 ($64), hand delivered by Tim Quinn, the brand’s celebrity face designer. Within seconds, Quinn had me sold—I couldn’t wait to try it on freshly cleansed skin followed by a full and proper application of makeup.

Fluid and super lightweight, this ultra-sheer primer soaks into skin in a matter of minutes and takes a dull, do-nothing complexion to a glowing one in seconds. No matter what type of makeup I layer over the product—cream or liquid foundation, or even powder—my skin always comes through. But, the best part is that it gives my skin a beautiful highlight so I can actually skip highlighter altogether. Let’s just call this one magic in a bottle!
