4 Tricks to Keep Blond Hair Bright featured image

Whether you were born with blond hair or your shade is salon-supplied, maintaining the brightness of your golden locks is key. From natural tricks to pro tips, we got the shine-inducing skinny from colorist and stylist Angelo David Pisacreta. “Blond will lighten up naturally in the sun,” he says. “But, there are other ways to give your blond a little boost.” Read on to find out more.

Lather Matters
According to Pisacreta, the formulation of your shampoo and conditioner has a direct impact on your color. “Use sulfate-free products, which help maintain golden locks because they don’t strip color with harsh surfactants.” Try Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum shampoo ($30) and conditioner ($29).

Treat It Right
Finding treatments created especially for blonds is key. “For perfect blond bombshells, LUSH Marilyn Hair Treatment ($23) is great,” says Pisacreta. “It infuses lemon, chamomile tea and saffron, which enhance blond, making it brighter, softer and shinier.”

Color Coded
With so many varieties and tones of blond, it’s important to find products that cater to your specific shade. “Redken Blonde Idol Custom-Tone Color-Depositing Conditioner ($28) comes with a hint of either violet or gold to keep your blond true to tone,” says Pisacreta. “This is important because both warm and cool blonds are very delicate shades, and you don’t always want more warmth.”

Brew Your Blond
If you’re looking for a natural fix, look no further than your tea tray. “Using chamomile tea is the lesser-known, natural way to lighten hair,” says Pisacreta. “Brew the tea for at least five minutes, and then let it cool before you rinse it through your hair. Follow by shampooing and conditioning.”
