Makeup can be your best friend, hiding everything you want to keep under wraps. But, having to don a full face of makeup just to leave the house can feel defeating, which is why many women are embracing the “no makeup” makeup trend. Here’s how to create the illusion of being bare-faced when you’re really not.

Prep Skin
To create an even base for your makeup, make sure to always apply primer first. “Primer is important to use because it creates the perfect canvas for makeup by filling and diffusing lines and wrinkles,” says Jackie Fan, Temptu lead makeup artist.

Get Rid of Any Discoloration
Apply under-eye concealer to hide any darkness. To hide discoloration or blemishes on your face, try a lightweight BB or CC cream, which gives natural-looking coverage without appearing heavy.

Add a Pop of Natural Color
For a healthy flush on the cheeks, use neutral-colored blush or bronzer to give a touch of color. Makeup artist Deborah Koepper says to smile and then brush the blush on the apples of your cheeks, applying it in a downward motion.

Bring Some Attention to Your Eyes
Just because you’re doing natural doesn’t mean you need to forgo your eye makeup altogether. You can still wear eye makeup, but just keep it simple. Stick with natural, flesh-colored shadow on your lids and a coat or two of mascara.

Go Simple With Your Lips
To finish off the natural look, keep your lips on the simple side with a neutral pink, beige or peach color. Whether you choose a matte, glossy or sheer finish, make sure it’s minimal and not extreme to keep with the overall theme.
