How to Find the Perfect Lip Color

It’s a sad truth that what may look stunning on one person, may not look so great on another. This typically applies to everything, whether it’s hairstyles, clothing or makeup. While you’ll know for sure if a dress fits after you try it on, it can be a little more difficult to find the perfect lip color at the makeup counter. But don’t worry, we’re here to help!
To find the perfect lip color, you want to choose one with undertones that flatter your skin tone. You can figure out your skin tone by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrists. If they look more blue than green, then you have cool undertones and if they’re more green, then you have warm undertones.
Lip colors with blue undertones tend to work best with fair or cool skin tones, whereas lip colors with red or orange undertones pair well with warm skin tones. To find out what kind of undertones the lip color you’re trying on has, a great tip is to test them on a white sheet of paper. This helps you see the true color more clearly.
Of course, you can also get a good idea if a lip color is a good match if you try it out on yourself, but it’s not the best idea to put communal makeup on your lips. While we typically test lip colors on the backs of our hands, there’s actually a better spot. Experts say it’s best to test out lipstick colors on your fingertips because they have blood vessel concentrations that are similar to your lips.
Because it’s so bold, red can be an especially tricky color to find a perfect match. Watch this video for more tips on how to choose the best red shade for your skin tone.
