Plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow, MD and facial plastic surgeon Paul Nassif, MD may keep the banter flowing on E!’s cosmetic-surgery-gone-wrong reality show Botched, but the doc duo doesn’t joke around when it comes to the very serious subject of board-certification.

As they recently told Page Six, prospective patients should take this advice if they want to stay off the series: “First of all, you want to make sure you find a doctor that is a board-certified specialist in whatever that field is—whatever it is—whether it’s plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, ocular plastic surgery, brain surgery, whatever it is,” Dr. Nassif told Page Six. “And two, if they do a procedure, you want to make sure they do a lot of it. I mean that’s one of the biggest things. You gotta make sure it’s somebody who has—you can see before-and-afters—we all pick the best before-and-afters and stuff like that. But you just got to make sure that you do your research on that doctor.”

The bottom line: “You want to make sure that doctor is specifically trained in that procedure,” Dr. Dubrow said.
