According to Pinterest trends, our skin is going to look flawless in 2019. Skin-clearing and brightening trends are up so significantly (and holding steady), the online platform predicts they’ll be just as huge as we ring in the new year.

Witch hazel, the medicinal herb that’s been used for centuries, has regained its popularity via many of this year’s skin launches, which makes it a no-brainer that searches for the ingredient are up 305 percent. Whether used as a mist to refresh skin or as an allover toner, this ingredient delivers. Try Mario Badescu Witch Hazel & Rose Water Toner ($14) for a dash of soothing rose or Public Goods Witch Hazel ($5 with membership) for a wallet-friendly version that also includes aloe vera and organic lavender oil.

Another skin-perfecting trend: swapping harsh, physical exfoliants for liquid, likely acid-based ones. According to Pinterest, searches for “liquid exfoliator” are up 59 percent. From peels to washes and serums, the possibilities are endless with this category. Darphin L’institut Youth Resurfacing Peel With a Botanical Blend ($95) provides a swipe-and-glow option, Estée Lauder Perfectionist Pro Instant Resurfacing Peel ($75) delivers baby-soft skin in 10 minutes in its latest wash-off peel, and Tatcha’s Violet-C Brightening Serum ($88) boasts 20-percent vitamin C and 10-percent AHA for all-day exfoliation without the irritation.

Last but certainly not least, many of us are making the swap from a nightly retinol to the natural alternative of bakuchiol—derived from the psoralea corylifolia plant—which is said to reap very similar benefits with less irritation. (Searches for the ingredient are up 275 percent.) If you’re skin-care MO involves stimulating collagen production, quieting signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles and slack skin, along with a dose of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, bakuchiol may also be for you. Some of our favorites boasting the heavy-hitting ingredient: Farmacy Honeymoon Glow ($58), Ole Henriksen Glow Cycle Retin-ALT Power Serum ($58), and ISDIN Melatonik 3-in-1 Night Serum ($150).
