Kate Middleton Uses Nutella in Her Skin Care Routine
As the royal Duchess of Cambridge, we’d assume Kate Middleton prefers luxury beauty treatments similar to the likes of caviar facials and pricey spa treatments. Surprisingly, that’s not the case. According to a television interview on U.K.’s This Morning with Middleton’s beautician, Debora Mitchell, Kate enjoys DIY beauty treatments just like the rest of us.
Her fridge-to-face product of choice? Nutella. It turns out Kate enjoys this chocolate spread as a face mask for hydrating dry skin. “The sugar in this is really good, it’s an exfoliator…the essential fatty acids in this are really good,” says Mitchell, while demonstrating on a model. “Afterward, in the next seven or eight days the skin becomes sheeny and moist.”

According to Mitchell, all you have to do is apply the spread, let it dry and wipe it off with you fingertips (don’t add water!). The tacky formula will supposedly scrub away dead skin cells and leave you with a smoother, more hydrated complexion.
While this may sound good in theory, New York dermatologist David J. Goldberg, MD, doesn’t exactly agree: “My patients have told me this mask is supposed to work by peeling all the blackheads and whiteheads out of the skin, leading to a clear complexion. In reality, the patients I have seen have complained that the mask made their acne worse, presumably by blocking their pores.”
Like Dr. Goldberg, many viewers weren’t too keen on trying the chocolate facial either, taking to Twitter to express their disapproval:

So, if you want to try a DIY treatment for softer skin, try something a bit more natural. Dr. Goldberg recommends applying moist avocados to soften and nourish dry skin. Considering avocado is a top ingredient in quite a few skin care products, it’s not a bad idea to try for yourself.
