Bobbi Brown Reveals What Made Her Leave Her Makeup Brand

By ·

When news broke that Bobbi Brown was leaving her namesake company at the end of 2016, the beauty world was pretty shocked. After all, the makeup artist, with her own confident natural look, had become as integral to her brand messaging as the products themselves.

So what made the hugely successful founder step down after 25 years? According to WWD, Brown gave a hint at the Indie Beauty Expo in LA. When asked if anything could’ve kept her at the brand, Brown said, “I don’t think so. It certainly wasn’t an overnight decision. The fun thing about starting a brand is creativity and the idea of doing something that doesn’t exist. When you get really big, your mind is on different things. It’s, how do you stay big? How big can you be? It was 25 years, we reached the celebration and we reached $1 billion in sales. It was like, ‘OK, maybe it’s time for me to do this again.’ I still have some ideas and some things I want to do.”

It seems like Brown is a creative at heart and is ready to take on creating something completely new once again. Due to her Estée Lauder non-compete, that new venture won’t be starting a new beauty brand in the near future. Instead, to see her artistry at work, you’ll have to visit The George Inn in New Jersey, where Brown will take over interior design duties for the hotel’s renovation. Brown’s husband, Steven Plofker, owns the property.
