When you want to change up your look, nothing beats a fresh manicure. The feeling is amplified midwinter, when the season is at its peak. Still, settling on a shade isn’t always easy. Between Instagram trends and celebrity inspiration, finding the perfect winter polish can feel dizzying.

Luckily, winter 2026 nail colors cover all the bases. “Winter 2026 is bringing back deep colors and embracing shades that look best with high-shine finishes,” says Townhouse founder and creative director Huber-Millet. That means you don’t have to choose between your last bookmarked manicure and your go-to shades. Classic colors with a modern twist—like iced mocha, baby pink and rich reds—are all ideal this season. Ahead, we spoke with two nail artists to help guide you.

Refined Reds

If you’re anything like me, a red manicure never leaves your rotation. This season, refined reds—think: scarlet, crimson and cherry—are taking over. According to Huber-Millet, these shades strike a balance between a bold and deep red. “They feel sophisticated, yet still give you that instantly put-together look,” she says.

Spiced Shades

Spiced tones have a similar appeal, offering added warmth and making them ideal for every skin tone. Huber-Millet says shades like tomato, paprika and chili pepper are popular this time of year thanks to their comforting undertones. Terracotta is another option that brings modern warmth without being too loud,” says Miami-based nail artist Karyna Kyliushyk.

Baby Pink

The pink nail trend is still going strong for winter 2026. However, this year, the color is much more demure. Baby pink is the soft shade that’s quietly becoming trendy. “It’s a surprise, but the color feels fresh and is surprisingly versatile for any occasion,” says Kyliushyk.

Black Currant

Near black nail colors, like black currant, are a no-brainer for winter. Not only is it an easy way to elevate your manicure, but it’s also universally flattering. “We’re seeing it across celebrities and social, where deep color with an ultra-lacquered finish feels like an accessory this time of year,” says Huber-Millet.

Mocha

If you prefer neutral-toned nails, mocha polish will be your go-to this season. The ideal shade falls somewhere between nude and chocolate brown, with just enough depth to stand out. Iced mocha also works this winter—”the frosted finish feels edgy yet wearable,” says Kyliushyk.

Slate Gray

“Effortless neutral colors, such as dolphin gray, biscuit and off-white, create a polished manicure that works with everything. They also grow out beautifully, which is helpful for wear time and nail health,” says Huber-Millet.

Two to try: Ella + May Grey Skies ($11); Gitti No.17 ($20)

Milky White

White manicures will continue to dominate this winter. However, crisp snow-colored polishes are taking a backseat to milkier shades.
