Style is always an evolution. It might take a decade for the average women to find her signature look. This, however, is not the case for celebrities. They seem to transform overnight. Take songstress Solange Knowles, the little sister of Beyoncé. She was once the quirky kid sister, always in the background, and now she is a super style icon on the forefront of what’s next in music and fashion.
While the road to her style evolution was indeed quick, it wasn’t without its potholes. She has become very famous for her hair, but has experimented with all sorts of hairstyles to make her natural hair work for her instead of against her.
“I think many people, especially from other cultures, just don’t understand the role hair plays in Black women’s lives. I can now transform the energy surrounding my hair into something way more productive,” Solange said in an interview. And it’s her willingness to commit to natural hair has made her a hair icon. “I get women all the time on Twitter and face-to-face saying, ‘I did this [haircut] because you did.”
Along with changing natural hairstyles, Solange has also had some changes on her face. Her skin, which was once problematic, has cleared tremendously in the last couple of years. Also, according to Summit, NJ, facial plastic surgeon Paul Carniol, MD, It “appears as if Solange has had a nose job,” he says. “The dorsum of her nose (the bridge) appears straighter and more prominent. Beverly Hills, CA, plastic surgeon Leslie Stevens, MD, agrees. “After reviewing multiple photos of Solange, she appears to have a more refined, thinner nasal tip. In addition, her face looks thinner but this could be attributed to her hairstyle affecting the facial proportions,” he says.
