As an acrylic-nail enthusiast with a standing fill appointment every three weeks, I take my manicure inspiration seriously. The look currently all over my very curated For You Page: pill box nails, summer 2026’s color-blocked trend where high-contrast shades are split cleanly across the nail to mimic the two-tone look of a capsule pill.
And as the data shows, I’m not the only one being fed the look ahead of my next nail appointment. According to Fresha—a booking platform for beauty and wellness appointments—Google searches for “pill nails” are up 84 percent in the last three months. No surprise there: The trend is playful, colorful and cool. Creators and nail artists keep posting versions that have me, a longtime single-tone manicure loyalist, seriously considering a maximalist moment.
After putting together the slideshow ahead, I’m convinced you’ll be a pill box nails convert, too. I’ve rounded up an array of takes on the trend, from celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen’s version, which she describes as “playful, slightly nostalgic, a little retro and somehow still cool at the same time,” to softer, more minimalist interpretations and high-gloss, full-color manicures. Retro Contrast Pill Box Nails
Celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen describes this set as “playful, slightly nostalgic, a little retro and somehow still cool at the same time,” which feels like the whole point of pill box nails. The mix of rich tones, softer shades and shimmery contrast gives it that vintage-candy-bowl effect without feeling too precious.

Mixed-Finish Pill Box Nails
This softer take on pill box nails—shared on Instagram by content creator Bethan Mccoy and brought to life by manicurist Lizzy of @_citre—proves the trend doesn’t have to be loud to have impact.

Metallic Pill Box Nails
Created by Canada-based manicurist Mick of @nails.by.mickk, this set mixes metallics, pastels and jewel tones for the maximalist sister of the trend. Each nail looks like its own tiny capsule, which is famously the whole point.

Blue-Green Split Pill Box Nails
This version from Nayeli of @fabnailsbynaye keeps the pill box idea a little more restrained, leaning on glossy blue and green for impact. The result is clean, cool and very easy to bring to your next appointment.

Candy-Gloss Pill Box Nails
Created by Lizzy of @_citre, this “happy pills” manicure is basically serotonin in nail form. The pastel color-blocking is candy-sweet, but not so sweet that it loses its cool.

Sheer-Base Pill Box Nails
Consider this look by Andrea of @andreabook_ the minimalist’s pill box mani. The semi-sheer base tones everything down just enough, but the colorful rounded tips still deliver the wink.

Capsule-Coded Color-Block Nails
This manicure by Milan-based nail artist Oksana Zavora of @chummy.nails isn’t technically pill box nails in the most literal sense, since not every nail has that classic capsule-style color split. Still, the rounded tips, mixed metallic bases and bright pharmacy-candy palette make it feel clearly inspired by the trend without directly recreating it.
