The Skin-Care Rule 'Sistas' Star Jordan Coleman Never Skips

Rising talent Jordan Coleman is quickly making her mark across television and film, currently starring as series regular Cheyenne Barnes on BET’s hit series Sistas, now in its 10th season. As the younger sister to Andi (played by KJ Smith), Cheyenne is emotionally complex, a little chaotic and ultimately searching for connection—pushing those around her, and audiences to confront deeper truths.

With training rooted in the Ivana Chubbuck Studio, Margie Harbour, Graham Shields Studios and Upright Citizens Brigade, Coleman has also appeared in projects like Rebel Moon–Part One: A Child of Fire, The Astrid Experience, Perimeter and All American: Homecoming. Whether stepping into layered dramatic roles or preparing for physically demanding performances, which she hopes will one day lead her into action films, Coleman approaches her craft with an empathetic, authenticity-first mindset.

Off-screen, her commitment to wellness—from strength training and hot yoga to Muay Thai and outdoor exploration—mirrors her belief in a holistic, longevity-focused lifestyle, while her travels continue to inform the depth and nuance she brings to every role.

You’ve joined the cast in its 10th season, so you are a bit of a newcomer. What excited you most about stepping into this character and becoming part of such a beloved series?

"Honestly, I was excited by the challenge. Joining a show in its tenth season means the tone is established, the audience knows these characters, and you have to come in and earn your place in that world. Cheyenne gave me that opportunity. She’s not one note; there’s a push and pull to her, and I love characters where you’re constantly discovering what’s underneath. It felt like a role I could grow with, not just perform.

Cheyenne is emotionally complex and sometimes a bit chaotic, but underneath it all, she’s searching for connection."

How did you approach bringing those different layers of her personality to the screen?

"I approached her from a place of honesty rather than judgment. It was important to me that none of her choices felt random or 'just chaotic.' Everything she does comes from a real need, even if it’s messy or misdirected. I spent a lot of time thinking about what she’s lacking emotionally and how that shows up in her relationships, because that’s where her vulnerability really lives.

Once I understood that she’s ultimately searching for connection, it became easier to lean into both sides of her; the strength and the instability. I wanted the audience to feel like, even when she’s making questionable decisions, they can still see themselves in her a little bit. That balance is what made her feel human to me."

Your character has a complicated sister dynamic. What has it been like building that on-screen relationship and exploring those family themes?

"It’s been really rewarding because that kind of relationship feels so real. There’s love, but there’s also tension and history, and things don’t always come out right, which makes it fun to play.

KJ and I had a lot of conversations to get aligned on how we saw them. We built our own backstory and dynamics to draw from, so even in the tougher moments, it still feels grounded. That’s been one of my favorite parts because it shows a more vulnerable side of Cheyenne."

Spending so much time on set means plenty of time in the makeup chair. Have you picked up any beauty tips or tricks from the glam team that you now use in your everyday routine?

"Double cleansing! You think the makeup is off, but it’s not! You have to use a makeup remover or an oil cleanser first!"

When it comes to skin care and self-care, what are some of the rituals or products that help you feel your best, especially during busy filming schedules?

"I like to keep everything really simple, especially when I’m filming. For me, it starts from within. I eat really clean, a lot of fruits and vegetables, and I stay consistent because it shows up in my skin.

As far as products, I keep it minimal. I wear sunscreen every single day, no matter what, and I use a hyaluronic acid from Skin Laundry along with Egyptian Magic daily to keep my skin hydrated and balanced.

I also have a membership at Skin Laundry, and my skin has gotten so much better since I started going regularly. It’s been a game-changer for me. I always recommend it."

How would you describe your personal beauty philosophy right now and has working in television changed the way you approach beauty or confidence?

"My beauty philosophy right now is really about simplicity and consistency—taking care of myself from the inside out and not overcomplicating things.

Working in television has shifted my perspective. Being in hair and makeup so often made me appreciate a more natural version of beauty, and I want to feel just as beautiful when the makeup comes off as when I wake up in the morning as I do on camera."

As viewers continue to get to know Cheyenne, what are you most excited for fans to discover about her—and about you as an actor?

"I think she really shifts the dynamic of the show in a way people aren’t expecting and becomes more of a turning point than they might initially realize. At first, she can feel a little hard to read or even hard to relate to, but as things unfold, you start to see how human she really is. There’s a growing vulnerability there that I’m really excited for people to connect with.

And for me as an actor, I’m excited for people to see that I’m not afraid to lean into that complexity and let it evolve. I love playing characters who challenge perception, and she definitely does that."
