What is Topanga hair?

From her first appearance at just 12 years old to her role as a parent in the sequel series, Girl Meets World, Topanga Lawrence has been a force to be reckoned with. And as for her hair, experts agree she set the standard for '90s volume.

"Topanga’s hair stands out for its thick and voluminous texture, giving it that carefree look," explains Balmain Hair's international education director, Kasper Heemskerk. "Her soft, long face-framing pieces make it look effortless and sexy, while the high-shine finish adds a natural, healthy glow."

How to Perfect '90s Volume

"To achieve playful volume, I would start with a mousse on the scalp on wet hair, followed by a thermal protectant spray on the ends (this will also give the hair better hold and bounce)," explains master stylist and owner of Glass Beauty Bar, Steven Picciano. "Then, rough dry the hair upside down to begin creating as much volume as possible. Follow up with a volume blow-dry, pulling all of the hair up and concentrating air and heat on your roots."

You'll want to pay a little special attention to those face-framing pieces.

"Set the front pieces in large velcro rollers for those soft face-framing rounded features and finish with a texturizing volume spray to keep it in place," Heemskerk advises.

"Once you’ve completed your blow-dry, do your makeup or get dressed—whatever you want—but give your hair some time to cool in the rollers," Picciano explains. "Then, starting at the bottom, take each roller out by twisting and sliding the roller away from the face. Once all of the rollers are out, flip your head over one last time, spray a texture spray inside your hair and brush your hair with a bristle brush. Then, flip and shake out your voluminous Topanga blowout!"
