Mascara is one of my holy grail beauty items, and I'm sure many of you would agree. Having lighter lashes, I look half asleep without mascara. Throw on a few coats, and I'm a new woman. Though I've been on a tubing mascara kick for quite some time, something about essence Call Me Queen Dramatic False Lash Effect Mascara grabbed my attention and I had to try it. I've long been a fan of the brand's best-selling Lash Princess Mascara—one sells every 10 seconds and it's the number-one mascara on Amazon—so I knew it had potential. An extension of essence's Lash Princess range, this brand-new mascara is worthy of its title upgrade to "queen."

The Benefits of This Mascara

First, let me just say that I can’t believe this mascara (and all of the brand's other incredible mascaras I’ve tried) is only $5. What a steal! Though it took me several coats, the look I achieved was indeed comparable to that of the lash extensions I used to wear. It gave volume, length and that fanned-out effect everyone loves, all with no clumping. The results I experienced back up the "False Lash Effect" claim in the product name.

Jill Krakowski, chief marketing officer for cosnova USA (essence’s parent company), told me the brush is very important. “Thanks to the unique and innovative shaped elastomer brush, even the shortest lashes can be reached and coated perfectly." Our lashes are all in different hair-growth stages, so some are longer than others. This mascara helped me grab each and every one for that fanned-out effect I mentioned above.

Another thing I noticed while using it was how much ended up on my waterline as I applied it. You could remove it with a Q-tip if you didn't want it there, but for me, it gave the effect of wearing eyeliner, which I don't normally wear. It intensified the bold, dramatic look, which I liked. The formula is also really easy to build without clumping and my lashes stayed nicely defined.
