Bella Thorne Shows What Not to Do After a Chemical Peel

No.

No stranger to posting about her beauty treatments, Bella Thorne got a chemical peel and shared the immediate aftereffects with her social media followers. As icky as it looks, it’s a pretty normal to have dry, irritated skin that flakes and peels right off.

Chemical peels help remove damaged upper layers of skin, revealing smoother, more evenly toned skin underneath. But before that happens it appears red and eventually starts to flake and peel. Thorne first posted an image of her red, irritated skin immediately following a visit with celebrity aesthetician Kate Somerville.

She wrote,“#cheers from me and my chemical peel!! It’s a good day to have your face peeling off ? #lizard #drinkingwater #humpday”

On the days following a peel, you can expect redness, shedding and flaking skin. Thorne shows what not to do in these snaps of herself peeling the flaking skin off of her face.

Los Gatos, CA, dermatologist Steven Swengel, MD, says this is a big no-no. “Even though this is a superficial peel, we always advise patients not to pick at or start peeling off their own skin. You can develop ‘peel lines,’ which can take a long time to fade. When the goal of a peel is to make the skin look fresher and brighter, it is a bummer to have to watch ‘peel lines’ fade over weeks, if not months, of time.”
