Ulta Beauty has reportedly updated its return policy, as discovered by a TikTok user named Lauren, whose video quickly made its rounds among beauty-loving social media users.
“I just did some returns right now and originally the return policy was that you could return items up to 60 days,” she began the video. “If it was a makeup or skin-care product, it had to be at least 50 percent full or majority full for you to get a refund,” she shared. The user went on to explain that she had used significantly less of the face moisturizer and toner she purchased before deciding it wasn’t right for her skin, only to be informed by staff of an update: items must now be returned within 30 days and be ‘new or gently used.'”
The content creator expressed confusion around the meaning of “gently used,” as she believed her skin-care products fit that description. While Ulta Beauty’s return policy doesn’t specify exactly what “gently used” means, one shopper who claims to work at the retailer suggested in the comments section that it’s defined as about 10 percent of the product used. However, this level of detail isn’t listed on Ulta’s website.
Ulta Beauty’s current return policy states: “You can return most new or gently used products within 30 days of the original purchase date for a refund to the original form of payment, subject to refund restrictions below. Returns made from 31-60 days of the original purchase date are eligible for a merchandise credit. Returns must include all original components.”
Despite these changes, TikTok users appear largely unfazed, with many agreeing that a 30-day return period is fair. “I work at Ulta, and honestly the 60-day return policy was too much,” one person wrote in the comments section of the video, adding that it was often abused. “I actually think 30 days is fair and being gently used is also fair.” Many others echoed this sentiment.
