Philosophy

With more than 14 years of operating experience and nearly 10,000 operations to his credit during that time, Dr. Sean Simon applies his philosophy of treating the whole patient to every aspect of care from discovering the ideal treatment with patients to making sure they are comfortable after surgery. The double-board certified surgeon is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Always searching for ways to improve results, Dr. Simon isn’t one to rest on his laurels. “I’m always self-evaluating because I have my patients’ best interests at heart,” he says.

About My Practice

What is your core treatment philosophy?

I think of myself as both a dedicated doctor and a skilled plastic surgeon. I am always considering the patient as a whole before I focus on their cosmetic goals. My mission is to provide outstanding patient care, safety and service as well as deliver the best possible surgical results.

What is a consultation with you like?

I spend time with the patient to understand their hopes, concerns and expectations. I put them at ease to facilitate an open dialogue in which I can direct them to the procedures that will help them reach their goals. Each consultation involves taking a thorough medical history and comprehensive physical exam, the cornerstones of medicine that are essential in evaluating cosmetic patients as well.

What information would you like to impart to patients?

At all times, I have their best interests at heart. While I will work with patients to achieve the best surgical outcome, sometimes knowing when not do surgery is just as important as knowing when to do it. When certain medical factors need to be addressed for the best chance of success, I collaborate with patients to plan the correct course of action. This relates back to providing honest recommendations and concierge-level service.

About Me

What do you like most about your job?

I feel fortunate to possess the ability to make a profound impact on a patient’s life. Enhancing their appearance in turn improves their confidence and self-image. It is rewarding to see a patient’s transformation both inside and out. At the end of the day, I know I have changed someone’s life for the better.

What is the one thing you're never without?

Perspective. My patients have placed their trust in me, and I, in turn, willingly take on the responsibility of caring for them and their needs. Ultimately, their well-being and safety are of prime importance and I never forget that.

FAQs

  1. What are the pro and con's associated with fat transplants for breast augmentation?
    What our experts say:

Pros and Cons of fat transfer for breast augmentation.  Potential disadvantages (compared with traditional methods utilizing implants), include more limitations on the size increase in a single operation, increased participation on behalf of the patient in order to prepare the breasts for surgery.  To elucidate further:  a breast vacuum device has been recommended by breast surgery researchers to be utilized for a short period of time prior to breast augmentation surgery with fat grafting, to aid in preparation of the breast tissues and allow them to accept more fat grafting successfully.  This process requires significant participation on behalf of the patient for a couple of weeks leading up to the surgery.  Based on current research, prior concerns regarding mammography have been found to be unwarranted.  Most studies are now showing that fat grafting (when done properly) will not significantly impair the reading of mammography or other breast imaging studies.  Advantages include the use of a patient's own fat tissue and avoiding the use of a foreign body such as a breast implant.  The fat is harvested through liposuction, therefore there are some body contouring benefits as well.  The result can be a very natural looking and feeling augmentation of the breast without the issues and concerns that go along with a breast prosthesis.

  2. My doctor says during the next few months my implants will move upwards to give me a full roundness at the top of my breasts. How does this happen?
    What our experts say:

There is a typical healing process after breast surgery that may occur over a few weeks to a few months.  The position of breast implants tends to lower over this healing period as the skin, muscle, and tissues stretch to accomodate the implants.  If an implant appears to 'rise' during the first few months after surgery, this may actually indicate a problem and should be addressed by the operating surgeon.  An important part of breast surgery is the attention a patient receives during the postoperative period to determine the individualized care that is needed to assure the best possible result for each patient.  To address the question more specifically, it is unlikely that the upper breast will develop  more fullness during the healing process as the implants will tend to settle more and not rise.  Of course, specific concerns should be addressed with the operating surgeon as they have the most information regarding one's specific case.

  3. Is the scar for a tummy tuck longer than a c-section scar?
    What our experts say:

Like many aesthetic procedures in plastic surgery, each individual patient's needs vary and therefore there will be variations in the procedure that will allow for the optimal result.  Some tummy tucks will allow for a very short scar if there is very little excess skin and the main issue is muscle tightening.  However, with more loose skin / tissue (which is very often the case), more skin will need to be removed and tightened, to contour the abdomen and this will require a larger incision.  Ultimately, the length of the incision is not as important as choosing the right procedure that will help you achieve the desired result.

  4. Is it possible for the breast to get bigger after surgery?
    What our experts say:

I assume you are asking about after 'breast augmentation surgery'?  if that is the case, the patient's breast tissues can certainly change in size over time.  The breast tissue is made up of breast glandular tissue and fat with varying degrees of each in each individual patient.  The amounts of breast tissue (gland) versus fat can also change over time based on patient's age and overall body fat.  Generally speaking as women age, more and more of the glandular tissue is replaced by fatty tissue.  Also as weight changes (body fat increases or decreases, the breast volume can also change in relation)  Therefore, with increased body fat, the breasts can increase in size.  Of course with pregnancy / lactation - breasts will also increase in size temporarily.

  5. Can liposuction be redone on an area to fix problems with the original procedure?
    What our experts say:

The best way to correct this is to prevent it in the first place, careful selection of patients as good candidate for surgery is critical for liposuction (as well as all aesthetic plastic surgery) The patient's skin and fat quality will determine for the most part the level of risk to develop contour deformities post liposuction. Laser liposuction procedures such as Smart Lipo (which I utilize) can help to minimize this problem when used in the correct patients to aid in creating better skin retraction and a smooth appearance after liposuction. If a patient does develop contour deformities / dimpling etc. after a liposuction procedure, often a new procedure can be designed to aid in improving or completely correcting the appearance which may involve a combination of additional liposuction and fat grafting which is adding fat, via injection of small droplets, into the dimpled areas.
Additionally scar tissue from prior liposuction or other surgeries can be addressed with these same techniques in addition to scar releasing techniques either through scar revision or utilizing special instruments to release the scar tissue (Smart Laser liposuction can be used for this application as well) and the area is further supported with fat grafting to improve the contour and prevent scar retraction.
