THE MOST UNIQUE ASPECT OF MY PRACTICE
We offer SculpSure®, a new noninvasive laser procedure that reduces fat in the target area by 25 percent

5.
WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY PROFESSION
Whether it’s acne, psoriasis or sun damage, giving a patient newly clear skin is truly rewarding
6.
MOST INSPIRATIONAL THING I LEARNED THIS YEAR
I teach dermatology to both UCLA and USC residents. Their enthusiasm inspires me and I continue to learn from them as well
7.
MY GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT
Building a successful practice where patients feel comfortable and get the most cutting-edge treatments in a friendly environment
8.
THREE WORDS THAT BEST DESCRIBE ME
Inquisitive, perfectionist, compassionate
9.
WHAT IS THE ONE SKINCARE TIP EVERYONE SHOULD FOLLOW?
Give treatments time to work. Many skin conditions are complex, even common conditions such as acne are very individual with a multitude of variables. We have excellent tools to achieve clear skin but the results may take several months. For facial rejuvenation, fillers like Sculptra and skin tightening like Ultherapy may take months but the results look natural and are long-lasting
10.
HOW DOES YOUR STAFF ENHANCE YOUR PRACTICE?
We treat every patient like a family member. Our most unique quality is the level of service we provide. I educate my staff to be extremely well-trained and knowledgeable with respect to procedures we offer, as well as helping patients with getting and using their medications and insurance coverage
11.
WHY IS GIVING BACK SO IMPORTANT TO YOU?
I teach dermatology to both UCLA and USC residents. Their enthusiasm inspires me and I continue to learn from them as well

Philosophy

Known for his use of multiple modalities and customized treatment protocols, Dr. Gene Rubinstein’s expertise spans the skin-care spectrum. His Studio City practice, which encompasses cosmetic, surgical and general dermatology and a 3,000-square-foot laser center, caters to celebrity clientele who demand a camera-ready appearance. “I’ve developed a very subtle technique with fillers that fosters undetectable results—even under high definition cameras,” he explains. The doctor often relies on a combination of medical and aesthetic therapies to restore skin that has been damaged by acne, environmental aggressors or aging.

About My Practice:

What makes your practice distinctive?

We take a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation to help patients get the best possible results. For most concerns, a combination of lasers, fillers and aesthetician services are combined to achieve an optimal outcome.

What is your patient care philosophy?

Patients have their own ideas about what they want to achieve. It’s my job to listen to their concerns, note their goals, and explain to them in a medically accurate and concise way what is and is not possible.

How do you stay on the cutting-edge?

I keep up to date through medical journals and attending professional meetings, but more importantly, I am a constant student of my trade. I examine scientific evidence and learn how to improve upon what I already know. Learning about new techniques and always asking the question, “Is there a better way to do this?” is an integral part of my practice.

About Me:

How much of your practice is medical versus cosmetic?

It’s about 50-50. The two play off one another, but as a dermatologist, I always look at things from a medical perspective first. It’s not uncommon for a patient to come in for a cosmetic laser treatment and during the procedure, we find, diagnose and remove a melanoma.

How would your patients characterize you?

Caring, gentle, responsive and very scientific in my approach.

Why did you become a dermatologist?

I was doing internal medicine when I realized that many disorders can be diagnosed by looking at skin, and that fascinated me. I also liked the aesthetic component; I’m artistic and the fact that dermatology combined medical know-how with artistic creativity was very appealing.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Interaction with my patients and that look in their eyes post-treatment. People want to look the way they feel inside, and when we can achieve that, it makes all the difference in their self-esteem.

Testimonials

I recommend photofacials to all my friends

Elsa D. D.

I am so happy I was referred to Dr. Rubinstein by a good friend who has been seeing him for many years. She looked so great that I trusted going to her doctor. I am very pleased with my results. I had a photofacial and Juvederm. It's been about four months since I started my transformation and I am looking better than I have for a long. My sunspots have subsided and I am wearing less coverup. I recommend photofacials to all my friends now. So this is a very good find.

About Me

Where Health Meets Beauty

Dr. Gene Rubinstein is known for his use of multiple modalities and customized treatment protocols. He often relies on a combination of medical and aesthetic therapies to restore skin that has been damaged by acne, environmental aggressors like the sun, or aging. “For example, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), involves the use of a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan® and a wavelength-specific light or laser to help eliminate damaged cells,” says Dr. Rubinstein. “This modality is used for acne or precancerous lesions. Both the therapeutic and cosmetic benefits are reliable and long-lasting.”

What makes an effective Photofacial?

My approach to an effective PhotoFacial treatment combines IPL™ (Intense Pulsed Light) and the V-Beam® pulsed-dye laser to address a range of epidermal blemishes. These laser and light devices absorb into damaged areas to coagulate blood vessels, slough off brown spots and induce collagen formation. I have found that the best results are achieved after a series of three combined treatments one month apart.

Advances in Lower Face Rejuvenation

My approach to the lower face is comprehensive in nature. Correction of the nasolabial folds, marionette lines and lip lines can be effectively achieved with hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®. I use Botox® and Dysport® to lift and define the jawline, smooth out dimpling on the chin and raise the corners of the mouth. Ultherapy® is our newest ultrasound-based device, which offers a safe, noninvasive approach to lift, tone and tighten loose skin of the neck and jawline. It works to help correct and prevent premature aging of the entire neck.
