If you’re like me, you can’t get enough vitamin C in your skin-care routine. Discoloration and uneven skin tone can be an incredibly frustrating concern to tackle, and this rockstar brightener can make a big difference. I look for the ingredient not only in serum-form, but also in my moisturizers. Why not double up on the radiance-boosting? When Kat Burki sent me her best-selling Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream, I was pumped to add it into my rotation, and I’ve since recommended it to friends. One of the key reasons? It’s recommended for sensitive skin too. These are my honest thoughts.

My Skin Type:

Combination. I’m drier in the cold-weather months and oilier in the warm-weather ones thanks to the high humidity on the East Coast. Occasionally when I try a new product or use a formula with a high concentration of acids, I experience a little sensitivity (mainly redness, but sometimes tingling).

The Benefits:

It’s not every day that I try a product with a high concentration of vitamin C (15 percent) that’s recommended for all skin types, including sensitive, and the reviews back that up. After looking into the ingredients a bit, I give credit to founder Kat Burki for the well-roundedness of the formula. I’m not surprised though, because if you know Kat, she’s hyper-focused on creating efficacious skin care using the proven principles of Nutritional Biochemistry, which is an area she knows intimately after working in Nutrition and Disease Management for 20 years prior to founding the brand. Her philosophy: “products that focus on the whole nutrition necessary to heal the skin.”

First, she started with the vitamin C (a trademarked, encapsulated form called STAY-C) to give the moisturizer its radiance-boosting, antioxidant prowess. Then she added revitalizing wild Reishi mushroom to combat inflammation in the skin while encouraging cell turnover. Next comes an ocean mineral complex that’s meant to deeply hydrate and strengthen the skin as it also activates enzymes within the formula, and MSM, a rich source of organic sulfur that’s been dubbed “Nature’s Beauty Mineral.” Last but not least, the brand’s proprietary KB5 Complex, which includes arnica, gotu kola, lavender, calendula, and chamomile to round out the “nutritional profile” and help increase the absorption of the product.

Key Ingredients:

Vitamin C, KB5 Complex, ocean mineral complex, Reishi mushroom, and MSM (dimethyl sulfone), shea butter

How to Use It:

Warm a small amount between your fingers and then apply it to your face, neck and décolleté morning and/or night. The texture is rich but somehow feels lightweight on my skin as I massage it in. It makes my skin feel so smooth. There is a very subtle citrus scent too.
