Pamela Anderson‘s commitment to foregoing makeup during public events and red carpet appearances has lasted nearly two years now, and she’s recognizing the impact her choice is having on people in her everyday life. In a recent interview with People, the Last Showgirl actress opened up about her overall relationship with beauty, noting that she’s frequently approached by fans who praise her for her return to bare-faced glam.

“People come up to me daily; at the grocery store, on the beach, on my walks,” Anderson told the magazine. “People are like, ‘Thank you so much for doing this.’ A lot of people resonate with it.” Anderson was also speaking about, Sonsie, the skin-care brand she launched in an attempt to bring more mindfulness to her more pared-down routine.

“I think that sometimes we have to come back to ourselves and peel it all away to remember who we are, what our original thoughts are, what our dreams and aspirations are,” she said. “So this is all part of it, it’s coming back to who you are and wherever you are in your beauty journey.”

The 57-year-old first made headlines for going makeup-free back in 2023, when she appeared at Paris Fashion Week. She later told Better Homes and Gardens that she chose to do it because she no longer identified with the bombshell character people had previously defined her as. “That was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself,” she said. “‘What is this cartoon character that I’d created? OK, that was fun. But I’m not that person anymore.'”

While she’s not the first celebrity to be championed for celebrating her natural beauty (Alicia Keys has also been riding that wave for a while), she’s become the unofficial face of the makeup-free movement since her resurgence. Still, she’s not 100 percent opposed to ever wearing makeup again.

“I just don’t want to play the game,” she told People in a previous interview. “And it felt good to look in the mirror and say, ‘I’m OK just like this.’”
