The ’90s are having a moment, and it’s clearly made its way to Hollywood. We spotted several retro hair looks on the 2026 Academy Awards red carpet, from bixies to big, bouncy blowouts. Watching some of our favorite stars reinvent these classics and lean into styles that stand the test of time was a highlight. Ahead, check out some of the standout hairstyles of the night.
Pixies and Bixies
Gracie Abrams
The bixie—a bob meets pixie hybrid—was huge in the 90s, from Meg Ryan to Cameron Diaz. Abrams wore the cut perfectly styled, with an edgy side sweep.

Teyana Taylor
Nominee Teyana Taylor’s wavy pixie cut reminds us of the haircut Halle Berry wore during the '90s and early 2000s, including while winning an Oscar in 2002.

Zendaya
We were excited to see Zendaya’s new bixie cut take the Oscars. Celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen says, "We’ve been wearing this cut in her natural texture, but thought tonight was the perfect time for a more polished look.” To get the look, she used the ghd Ceramic Vented Round Brush ($35) and the new Speed Hair Dryer launching in May, some classic Velcro rollers and Moroccanoil Treatment Mist ($50), Hydrating Styling Cream ($36) and Luminous Hairspray Strong ($30).

‘90s-Inspired Bobs
Emma Stone
Emma Stone’s flippy soft auburn bob immediately caught our eye. One of our editors likened it to Calista Flockhart’s mid-90s bob on Ally McBeal. Style with ghd and RŌZ Haircare, her short chop was perfectly flippy and flirty.

Regina Hall
Regina Hall brought back the ‘90s blunt bob sported by many supermodels of the time. The structured, chic look perfectly complemented Hall’s geometric asymmetrical dress.

Zoey Deutch
Celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager says Zoey Deutch’s Vanity Fair Oscars Party look was inspired by clean lines and minimalism with a dash of glamour. “We wanted the hair to feel sleek, polished and effortless. A modern nod to a '90s silhouette with beautiful shine.” To get the high shine and perfect shape Brager used Kérastase L’Incroyable Blowdry Hair Lotion ($50), Densifique Densimorphose Mousse ($50), Glaze Drops ($39) and Laque Couture Hairspray ($40), as well as a flat iron to subtly curve the ends inward for a modern take on a classic ‘90s shape.

'90s-Inspired Supermodel Blowouts
Danielle Brooks
When I think “va va voom,” this is the hair that comes to mind. Sky-high volume and tousled to perfection, this is what we all wish our hair looked like when running into an ex.

Kathy Bates
Kathy Bates’ windblown silver strands look straight off a '90s starlet. The volume, the dynamic curvature, the side-swept bang all scream '90s in the chicest way possible.

Voluminous Curls
Alice Carvalho
Alice Carvalho, who appears in Best Picture nominee The Secret Agent, sported gorgeous curls at the Oscars. Her natural, voluminous texture brought us back to the days of Lisa Bonet and Julia Roberts, when big, bold curls ruled the red carpet.

Odessa A'zion
Marty Supreme star Odessa A'zion rocked her recent signature look—dark curls in a shaggy cut. There’s been discourse about whether she wears a wig or curls her hair herself, but either way, we love the final look.
