Spring is the perfect time to go brighter with your hair, your clothes and your makeup. And a fun color-packed shade of lipstick, like Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Pickled Ginger ($26)—a creamy electric coral shade with hints of rose tones and edible oils in the formula to keep the lips hydrated—is the perfect way to do it.

Because skin tone has a lot to do with which lip colors you can pull off, we decided to put eight editors with different skin tones to the test to see how one shade of lipstick looked different on everyone.

Noelle Khan, Intern
“As a fan of bold lipsticks, I was super excited to swipe on this hot fuchsia, pink shade. Despite my love for intense lip colors, I generally have trouble finding the perfect bright pink shade to complement my skin tone. I wasn’t too impressed with the color once I had it on, yet I did enjoy the scent and feel of it. It glided smoothly onto my lips before drying into a velvety matte finish and it smelled like citrus fruit. Overall, I would purchase this super moisturizing lipstick, but I would opt for a slightly darker shade that complements my skin tone better.”

Leiana Briganti, Online Content Producer
“I normally don’t wear any kind of bright lipstick so I was a little nervous, but I was surprised at how natural it looked! On my skin it looked a little more pink than I’m comfortable with, but the pop of color got me so many compliments from complete strangers throughout the day.”

Elise Minton, Executive Beauty Editor
“Every once in a while I stray from a light pink or nude lip and go for something bright. While this shade had a little more fuchsia to it then I would normally wear, I loved how creamy the formula was and how long-lasting it was, too.”

Liz Ritter, Executive Managing Editor
“Would never ever, reach for this color normally—it looked almost neon in the tube—but I really like it. I only wore mascara today and it instantly glammed-up my makeup.”

Tatiana Bido, Special Projects Editor
“I love a bright, bold lip, and this pinky coral is the perfect spring color. It stayed on for what seemed like all day and remained creamy and moisturizing. I like how it just glides on and you get an intense color payoff with just one swipe.”

Carolyn Hsu, Digital Managing Editor
“This color is one that definitely grew on me. It looks really pretty in the tube, but when you first apply, it’s totally shocking. Had I tried on it at Sephora, I probably would not have purchased it immediately. But after wearing it for a while, I started to really like it, which just shows that you should always try new makeup on for a few hours before deciding if you love it or not.”

Sage Youngblood, Assistant Web Editor, Sandow
“When thinking about my shade of choice, I typically lean toward a deeper, darker lip look, but I was actually pretty surprised when I tried on Pickled Ginger–I felt like I was glowing. I think the vibrant color and matte finish really complement my skin tone, as well. I’m usually too self-conscious to try the bright and bold look, but I have a Sephora gift card handy and now I know what I’m buying next!”

Brittany Burhop, Senior Editor

“My skin is pretty fair, so when I first saw this color, I thought no way! Then I put it on and my mind changed almost instantly. It’s definitely bright, but not neon. Sometimes it’s fun to take a risk and try something new!”
