When it comes to skin-care products, New York dermatologist Michelle Henry, MD has tested the full spectrum and knows which ingredients are legit and which ones aren’t. “I am an advocate of products that not only feel good, but also have a proven safety record and are backed by science,” she says, which is reflected in her day-to-night routine below. “Skin care is an important part of my daily self-care ritual—it is an almost meditative moment to focus on one self with the added benefit of a healthy, even and luminous complexion.”

“I use a gentle cleanser like La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser ($15) in the morning, as to not irritate my skin after my more robust cleansing regimen at night. To help gently improve my skin texture and reduce the size of my pores, I use Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 ($101), which exfoliates and hydrates at the same time. Next, I layer SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 ($154) to fight pesky hyperpigmentation—it contains tranexamic acid, one of my favorite ingredients for uneven skin tone—and Skinbetter Science Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment ($135), which feels like a lotion, but moisturizes like a cream and contains urea to improve skin texture. Last up is CeraVe UltraLight Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 ($18), which I love because it’s transparent on my melanin-rich skin.”

“At night, I use SkinMedica AHA/ BHA Exfoliating Cleanser ($47) to remove dirt, oil, environmental pollutants and debris from the day. Then I follow with Lotion P50 again and ISDIN Melatonik 3-in-1 Night Serum ($160), which is anti-aging and contains vitamin C and a gentle, plant-based retinol alternative called bakuchiol. Lastly, I use Clinique iD—the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ and Concentrate for Lines & Wrinkles ($39)—to help plump lines and wrinkles using a blend of whey protein and peptides.”
