Wait a minute! Before you put on that BB cream, there’s another product you need to know about that’s storming the beauty scene with full force. CC cream, or color correcting cream, is starting to infiltrate beauty stores with tons of brands creating their own version.
Similar to BB creams, CC creams are designed to treat and cover blemishes and even out skin tone—the main difference is that that CC creams are oil-free. On top of that, “They offer multifunctional benefits like moisturization, UV protection, soothe and blemish coverage,” says cosmetic chemist Ginger King. “CC creams are more natural, more sheer, more hydrating and oil-controlling than BB creams.”
One of the best reasons to choose one is that the finished look is really natural. While BB creams tend to only come in a few shades, CC creams come in many different shades that are similar to the options you have with foundation. That means that they can be matched exactly to your skin color.
“I think of CC creams as a foundation that packs a punch,” says San Antonio dermatologist Vivian Bucay, MD. “A BB cream is a great option for the woman who has very little by way of blemishes or spots and who just wants an all-in-one product to protect, moisturize and brighten the skin. Women with more problematic skin that needs a bit more coverage to even out the skin tone will benefit more from a CC cream.”
While many brands have CC creams that aren’t out yet, there are a few that you can get your hands on right now or in the very near future. Olay Total Effects CC Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer ($22) provides instant coverage and offers a solution to women who are concerned with wrinkles and sagging skin. Available in January, Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream is a 12-in-one miracle worker that repairs, evens, firms and covers your skin. Expect to see more and more brands like Clinique and Chanel roll out their own CC creams in the US very soon!
