Much like a marathon, people start preparing for the Met Gala months out. Unlike a marathon, prep often entails facials, hair treatments, and outfit fittings. We caught up with one of the experts who helps stars get ready to take on the Met Gala red carpet, celebrity facial masseur Flavia Lanini, who performed lymphatic drainage on many of your favorite celebs ahead of the first Monday in May.

“I had the pleasure of preparing some incredible clients for the Met Gala this year, including Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Kim Kardashian, Mina Patel and Jonathan Simkhai,” Lanini tells us. “Each session was tailored to reduce inflammation, sculpt the body, and promote overall wellness so they could feel their absolute best on such a special day.” Lymphatic drainage is one of the key steps to helping celebrities achieve red carpet-ready sculpted jawlines, cinched waists, and a lit-from-within glow.

The benefits of lymphatic drainage

Unfamiliar with lymphatic drainage? Let the expert fill you in. The practice has numerous benefits. “It helps reduce bloating and water retention, improves circulation, supports the immune system, enhances detoxification, and promotes a sense of relaxation and well-being,” explains Lanini. Her signature method blends manual techniques, guided breathwork and science-backed protocols. “We go beyond aesthetics to target systemic health and longevity.”

How to do lymphatic drainage at home

While you can perform simple lymphatic drainage techniques at home, Lanini notes that nothing can replace a professional treatment. Whether on your own or with a professional, be sure to stay hydrated after lymphatic drainage “as water is key to helping flush out toxins post-drainage.”

To try lymphatic drainage at home, “Start with deep belly breathing to activate the diaphragm and stimulate lymph flow.” Then begin with clean hands and gentle pressure. “Think of it as guiding, not pushing,” says Lanini.  Always “Use upward, sweeping motions toward the heart, especially around the legs, arms and neck.”
