This Lipstick Comparison Chart Is Throwing Beauty Consumers for a Loop

All makeup is clearly not created equal and, as a very smart Reddit user just proved, it might be more skewed than we ever could have imagined when it comes to the best bang for your buck.

As reported on by StyleCasterarmidalowe created and shared a chart showing how 36 lipstick brands—liquid lipstick was excluded—stack up when it comes to price, ounces and price per ounce. (As StyleCaster so succinctly explained, think of it as taking a look at “each lipstick’s volume, or the amount of space the object takes up, is measured in fluid ounces, not ounces (there’s a big difference between weight and volume)…and all of these lipsticks take up less space than 1.0 fluid ounce.”

The chart goes from the low to the high end, with some price per ounces hitting in the hundreds. For example, Huda Beauty costs $60 for 0.317 fluid ounces, whereas Tom Ford (the highest in the group) hits $54 for just 0.100 ounce.

Reorganizing lipstick prices by ounce leads to some interesting intel. According to the chart, when measured by price/ounce, Huda Beauty is actually cheaper than drugstore staples like L’Oréal, CoverGirl and Neutrogena. On the flip side, while no one finds it shocking that Tom Ford rings in the most expensive on a per ounce basis, Benefit Cosmetics—while on the price sticker might be less than Tom Ford—isn’t that much cheaper on a per ounce basis, and costs more than its LVMH counterparts Dior and Givenchy.

Not surprisingly, Reddit commenters have thoughts, quickly taking to the comments field to voice their (most of them shocked) reactions.
