Kylie Jenner’s penchant for wigs is well-known, but her latest choice is causing quite a stir on social media. The 26-year-old reality star recently took to her Instagram grid to share a series of selfies wearing a short platinum blonde wig styled in voluminous curls. Fans couldn’t help but notice her resemblance to Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, which has sparked a flurry of comparisons in the comments section.

“Did someone say they missed King Kylie?” Jenner wrote in the caption, referring to her vibrant hair color experiments in the 2010s. One of her nearly 400 million followers commented, “Welcome back, Marilyn Monroe.” Another wrote, “Marilyn, is that you, babe?”

This isn’t the first time Jenner has recreated a Monroe-inspired look. In 2019, she channeled the actress’s iconic appearance from the 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for a Halloween shoot with V Magazine. The Kylie Cosmetics founder wore a silk pink gown for the occasion, accessorized with a bevy of diamonds and, of course, a blonde wig. Jenner posted the cover shots to her Instagram, aptly captioning them, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”

Designer Alejandro Peraza of the Alejandro Collection even created a replica of Monroe’s dress for the photoshoot. “Kylie is the girl who has it all, and so it is befitting of her to dress up as an icon like Marilyn,” the designer told People at the time. Kylie knows better than anyone that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”

“Kylie wanted a replica and no stone left unturned to get there,” he continued. “So we have the exact amount of skin shown as Marilyn herself in the film.”

It’s no secret that the Kardashian-Jenner family is enamored with Monroe—and Kylie isn’t the only one who’s channeled her iconic look. Her sister Kim famously donned one of the Hollywood icon’s dresses at the 2022 Met Gala—specifically, the sequined, fitted beige number that Monroe wore to serenade John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday in 1962. Her hairstylist, Chris Appleton, even dyed her hair platinum blonde for the occasion, a major commitment in its own right. Kardashian told Vogue ahead of fashion’s biggest night out, “I’m spending the whole day just dyeing my hair, 14 hours straight.”

Kardashian controversially followed a strict regimen to slim down and fit into Monroe’s dress. “I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein,” she told Vogue at the time. “I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.” Ultimately, the dress fit her, though her methods certainly sparked controversy when revealed in the media. Nonetheless, she told the outlet that when she slipped into it with ease, “I wanted to cry tears of joy.”
