Natural red-head and Hollywood icon, Jessica Chastain stunned us all on the Met Gala red carpet when she appeared almost unrecognizable as a platinum blonde. Channeling the fashion mogul and theme of this year’s gala, designer Karl Lagerfeld, Chastain’s platinum wig perfectly emulates the Lagerfeld look.
Chastain’s all black gown, sheer black gloves, and huge statement-making sunglasses would already make her a vision of Lagerfeld, whose personal style became to be a brand unto itself. Lagerfeld was well known for his uniform of slim-fitted suits, starched white shirts, black leather gloves, and large sunglasses.
But perhaps the most iconic piece of Lagerfeld’s personal style was his white, perfectly sleek low ponytail.
Chastain’s choice of glossy platinum takes her homage of Lagerfeld to the next level. The color is a perfect echo of Lagerfeld’s own style, and it compliments her shockingly well. You may have had to do a double take to ensure it was really her, but she undoubtedly looks incredible.
The long, middle-parted style is sleek and smooth, framing her face in a way that highlights her gorgeous jawline, and the icy color conveys a sophisticated, untouchable glamour. The color manages to make her look expensive and divine, without washing out her fair skin. Paired with her smokey, romantic makeup, it’s giving ’90s Chanel to the maximum.
With a night full of ponytails, black and white looks, and historical Chanel, Chastain fits right in yet stands out. While the night might be temporary, we’re hoping she keeps the color for a while.
