I was first “introduced” to Kaitlyn Bristowe at the same time as the rest of the world: The night she stepped out of the limo on The Bachelor to meet Chris Soules. That was 2015, and she’s been one of my favorite cast members—she went on to become The Bachelorette and even cohosted a season with another fave Tayshia Adams—ever since. Now, she hosts a successful podcast, Off the Vine, she runs a wine company called Spade & Sparrows, and she even won Dancing With The Stars. I recently sat down with Bristowe via Zoom to hear about her plans for 2023, her top beauty discoveries and her latest brand partnership.

Do you have any resolutions for 2023?

“I’m not a big resolutions gal. I always set intentions for the year, and this year, my intention is to have clarity. That’s kind of my word of the year. Whether it be a brand partnership or a podcast guest, or what I’m doing for myself, I want to have clarity in everything I’m doing—I want to know the ‘why.'”

Gosh that sounds hard.

“It is. Resolutions are harder though. Set yourself up for failure? No thanks.”

Is there anything on your calendar that you’re excited about?

“I’ve never gone to London, and it’s been on my bucket list, and in March I’m going to London, Paris and Germany. I’m so excited. There’s a flight that goes straight from Nashville to London too.”

Let’s talk beauty products—I know you’re a beauty lover. What are your favorites right now?

“I’m a sucker for beauty influencers. Honestly, I’m not great at doing my own makeup. My new favorites are blush—I feel like I was never a blush gal until recently—and I love the Rare Beauty Blush. I just got the Victoria Beckham cream blush stick too. Charlotte Tilbury also has this highlighting cream that I mix with my cream blush and it makes the most beautiful glowy blush.

I honestly don’t have a lot of brows, so I do microblading. There’s only one person I would ever go to for microblading, and she’s in LA. Her name is Shaughnessy and she’s incredible. Then I’ll use pretty much any good clear brow gel, but I love Anastasia’s Brow Freeze. I love the spiky brow look, but I never know what’s in with the kids these days. Are spiky brows in or are we not doing that anymore?

One product I just discovered is this volumizing mascara, which is really incredible because I could not find a good mascara that I loved. The big brush is so good. Most are flaky, but not this one.”

You’re also partnering with Soap & Glory on a new TikTok challenge this month. Tell me more.

“I was a fan of the brand long before now. The scents are incredible—they smell like you’re at a spa—and I love the way the products feel. Seven years ago, I remember being in Shopper’s Drug Mart—you wouldn’t know because you’re not Canadian—and I was drawn to the Soap & Glory section because I loved the packaging. It’s so cheeky and fun. So when they asked me to partner with them, it was a hard yes for me. And the #GetNakedWithMe Challenge sounded so fun because #GetReadyWithMe is so last year, and let’s get naked this year. Let’s get confident and have fun in our own skin.

It felt like a fun challenge to do on TikTok, and I did one where I’m using the products and dancing and singing in the shower. I want to encourage people to do it too, and they can win a curated package from Soap & Glory with some of my favorite products in it, like the Flake Away Body Scrub—it’s a fresh-floral with rose and bergamot and smells amazing. I get so many spray tans, I need a good exfoliant to scrub it off in the shower. My tan gets all nasty, and then I just have this good exfoliant and it’s perfect. I also signed some of the bottles.”

What are your thoughts on TikTok?

“You know what’s so funny about TikTok is that we’re all just copying each other and stealing other people’s content and using it for our own. The other day I did one that I clearly saw from another girl and I got all these trolls saying, ‘You’re just stealing from that girl’s page?’ and I’m like, isn’t that what we’re all doing? I thought that’s what we did here.”

What’s on your nails these days? Are you into the press-on craze?

“Yes, I love the brand Quickies. I was always like, ‘press-on nails—those just fall off.’ But these are good. They’re so cute and there are so many different designs. You can do the Hailey Bieber chrome nails; you can do every color under the sun. I love the soft pink with hearts on them, which would also be really cute for Valentine’s Day. If I’m going away somewhere for a while, I’ll usually do press-ons, but if I’m home in Nashville, I’ll usually go see my girl and do dip and extensions. It looks really nice.”

Which in-office treatments are in your rotation right now?

“You know what I’ve been really loving lately is RF microneedling, which uses radio frequency and I feel like it really tightens the skin. It’s one of my favorite things right now. I’m all for that Botox life. I love it, especially if I’m looking tired. It just makes me look refreshed. I go about every four months. And lastly, a good peel. I love the Advanced Corrective Peel from SkinCeuticals, which I do like once a year.

I haven’t done filler in a while because I started to feel like maybe I was getting a little out of hand. It’s funny too because when I have a lot of makeup on, I look so ‘done,’ but when I don’t, I look like I’m 13 again.”

You mentioned on a recent IG Live that you’re going to the Hoffman Institute. What inspired you to go?

“I heard about Hoffman years ago through a friend and I’ve also known a couple people who have gone. Justin Bieber did it, and Katy Perry did it, and that inspired me too. It’s a week inner-child retreat. We cannot compare our traumas, and some people have, we call it ‘Big T Trauma’ or ‘Little T Trauma.’ But, everyone can benefit from working on their inner child and heal wounds. It’s a really intensive week: no phones, no computers, no work, no books even. No distractions. You really focus on healing that inner child.

I went through one of the worst breakups of my life when I was 27 years old before I went on The Bachelor. Because what do you do when you get heartbroken, you’re like ‘Let’s go on The Bachelor‘ [laughs]. Ever since then I’ve really focused on therapy and I’ve been working on myself, and I’ve just seen so much growth over the years. I’ve done so much talk therapy and thought, let’s just take it one step deeper and do this retreat. I’m always wanting to grow and learn more about myself and why I am the way I am. I’ve heard nothing but incredible things. They say it’s 10 years of therapy in one week.”

I can’t wait to hear about it. I’m sure you’ll share everything with your followers.

“I will. I feel like it’s my duty, like my responsibility to share the knowledge and wisdom I learned from that. I think it’s so important to have good self-love and self-care. I’m just such a believer in any kind of therapy and I talk about it all the time.”
