According to a release, Kao Corporation, parent company of body-care brand Jergens, just announced a voluntary recall of Jergens Ultra Healing products. More specifically, the brand is concerned about the 3- and 10-ounce sizes of its moisturizer.
The recall is coming after a bacteria known as Pluralibacter gergoviae was found in the product. Per the release, this bacteria poses little harm to healthy individuals. However, it becomes dangerous when people who are immunocompromised come into contact with it.
The company is still investigating the products, but Kao is taking this step as a precautionary measure in order to ensure safety for its consumers. The company is removing the product in warehouses, communicating with retailers to ensure the product is removed from shelves and notifying all consumers of the recall.
To identify the contaminated products, look for Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer bottles that have been manufactured between 10/1/21 and 10/18/21. Additionally, the brand says that the effected lot codes for both sizes can be found on the back of the bottle printed in black ink and begin with the prefix "ZU." Anyone who owns a product from a recalled lot should call the Kao USA Inc. Consumer Care Center for a free product coupon and any adverse reactions should be reported via the FDA's website.
