As far as celebrities that keep it real go, Drew Barrymore is one of the realist. At 41 years old, the star of Netflix’s upcoming original series “Santa Clarita Diet” isn’t worried about chasing lines and wrinkles with a needle just yet. In an interview with The New York Times, the actress opens up about what she will and won’t do to address skin aging at this stage in her life.

In addition to treating her skin at home with a pared-down routine that includes a mild facial cleanser followed by toner (she relies on drugstore staple Cetaphil, a Christine Chin facial cleanser and Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel), she also incorporates a skin brightener to fight discoloration.

“As you get older, you get melasma; you have kids; there’s sun damage,” says the actress. “I like to pad my moisturizer with a Christine Chin brightening serum. I’m obsessed with her line. It’s the only thing I splurge on. I don’t have time to go for facials, so I haven’t seen her in years, but every couple of months, I’m buying the goods.”

Beyond that, Barrymore confesses that she makes a yearly trip to the dermatologist, but not for the reason one would think. Choosing to forgo facial fillers, her treatment of choice is a Clear + Brilliant laser skin resurfacing treatment. “Once a year I go to Dr. Roy Geronemus for a barnacle removal. He treats my face like the bow of a boat. I do a Clear + Brilliant laser every October. After the summer, I look, honestly, like I have dirt all over my face from the melasma. It was so bad after my kids. No matter how much sunscreen and how many hats, I have a lot of brown spots.”

As far as fillers are concerned, Barrymore isn’t totally ruling them out, but she doesn’t even want to consider them until she’s really ready. “[Dr. G] knows I’m not going to do anything beyond lasers, so he doesn’t even bother talking about it. He did suggest some fillers the last time I was there. I was like: ‘Not happening, Dr. G! Talk to me in 10 years.’ I’m not putting anything in my face until it’s so bad I have nothing to lose.”
