About My Practice
What are the options for the post-mastectomy breast reconstruction ?
There are a lot of options from using an implant with usually some modification to the opposite breast; with a TRAM flap (lower abdominal flap) or a latissimus flap to provide additional coverage. It's a complicated topic and depends on the size of other breast, and the objective of the patient. Do they want equal size or do we have to modify the other breast; whether they want to use an implant or their own tissue, etc.
How have you helped make reliable information more widespread?
I have appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, Discovery Channel, CBS, NBC and Fox, contributing my thoughts on various techniques and procedures. In addition to running a busy private practice, I have also served as president of the Chicago Society of Plastic Surgeons to promote safe surgeries.
Why do you advise your patients to start off slow?
Many of my patients seeking aesthetic enhancement start off with less-invasive procedures before they commit to other treatments because I tell them that many times subtle changes can have a big impact on the way we look and feel. My treatment style does not include planting seeds of discontent. I'm here to help my patients age gracefully throughout all stages of their life, so having a variety of options, from noninvasive to surgical, is not only important, but necessary.
About Me
How would you like to be remembered?
I'd like people to say I was a doctor who had great aesthetic sense and shared it.
Why did you become a plastic surgeon?
At first I wanted to be an architect, but i found it more challenging to transfer that aesthetic sense into technical skills.

FAQs
- Where is the best place for the incision when getting breast implants? What our experts say:
It depends on their anatomy and personal preference. If the areola is large enough, that hides the scar, especially if they want to go topless. Otherwise, I place them inframammary, in the crease.
- Are laser resurfacing treatments painful? What our experts say:
The CO2 Fraxel is painful, but when I do the CO2 Fraxel you are put to sleep. If I use the Fraxel Restore that is not a CO2, but more like and erbium laser, it can be done with topical antithetic.
- Can I combine breast augmentation/ breast lift surgery with a tummy tuck? What our experts say:
Yes you can. You can also combine a breast lift or reduction with a tummy tuck.
- How do I get rid of saddlebags? What our experts say:
Liposuction. And if it is severe, I may recommend liposuction in conjunction with a lower body lift.
- How do I know if I need a breast lift? What our experts say:
You need a breast lift if the nipple or breast tissue is lower than the inframammary crease. Basically, if you flunk the pencil test, you need a lift.
