It’s been a banner year in the field of prescription acne treatments and, just in time to still sneak in to the 2019 list of releases comes the FDA approval of Arazlo (tazarotene) Lotion.

Manufactured by of Ortho Dermatologics, Arazlo is the first tazarotene (vitamin A derivative) acne treatment available in lotion form. The treatment is approved for patients nine and older and is expected to officially launch in the first half of 2020.

“It’s about time,” says West Palm Beach, FL dermatologist Kenneth Beer, MD, who has long been a fan of retinoids and is confident that this latest approval will provide patients with a safe and effective treatment option.

“One problem with retinoids though is always the irritability of the vehicle. This formation goes a long way to making this less of an obstacle, which helps a patient stay on treatment. Other retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin are also used to treat acne and this category of drugs is a cornerstone of effective acne treatment.”

“The addition of this new product will be welcome in my practice,” he says.
