Daryl Hannah doesn’t make a lot of Hollywood appearances these days, but when she does, she does it right. The Kill Bill and Splash star took the stage at tonight’s Oscars to present Best Editing, looking effortlessly chic in a crisp white blouse, tailored black pants and a structured black bustier. Her signature blonde hair, now styled with birkin bangs, gave her an air of understated cool, the kind of cool that Hannah is known for.
Celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern prepped Daryl Hannah’s skin with Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Super Anti-Aging Face Cream ($360), Dual Serum ($430) and Everything Eye Patches ($125). She applied Sturm’s Glow Drops ($160) before moving on to makeup, using complexion products from Koh Gen Do and finishing touches from Charlotte Tilbury and Jamie Greenberg Makeup for a radiant, youthful glow.
For longtime fans, the moment was a full-circle flashback to one of Hannah’s most legendary Oscars looks. Back in 1988, long before red carpet interviews were a game of “Who are you wearing?” she arrived in a rented metallic silver cocktail dress covered in intricate vermicelli beading, the same dress Madonna wore to the Who’s That Girl premiere a year earlier.
The designer remains a mystery to this day (rumor has it both stars rented it from a costume house), but the look? Pure Hollywood icon status. Paired with an embroidered white stole, long white gloves and a pair of bedazzled sunglasses, it was a glam moment that lives on in fashion nostalgia.
More than 35 years later, Hannah is still the queen of cool, and if tonight’s Oscars proved anything, it’s that real style is about more than just the dress.
