We’ve all grown used to the same routine when we go in for our regular haircut-wash, then cut, then dry. But we might not be going about it the right way. Hairstylist Mika Fowler of the Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills suggests changing up your routine for the better.
Turns out, it may be better to dry your hair before you cut it. Why, you ask? “Do you wear your hair wet everyday?” asks Fowler. “The hair is going to naturally shrink up as it dries. With a dry cut, we can follow your head shape and you hair’s natural direction.”
“When you cut it wet, it seems like it’s straight and perfect,” says Fowler. “But once it’s dry, your hair has its own personality and wants go back to how it was. By cutting your hair dry, I see and listen to your hair.”
So is there ever a time when it’s better to cut your hair wet? Fowler says that if a client is going for a bob, she will occasionally start the cut with the hair wet, but always finishes with the hair dry.
A dry cut can help your hair move and sway more naturally, and we’re definitely believers! Are you willing to switch up your haircut routine with a dry cut? Be sure to tell us in the *comments below.
