To dissolve or not to dissolve—that is the question. The topic of filler dissolver, or hyaluronidase injections, is a complex one. While sometimes necessary to address emergencies like vascular occlusion, it can entail a painful and prolonged process involving multiple visits. Additionally, it serves as an elective option for those seeking to reverse undesirable outcomes. Though filler dissolving treatments carry risks and discomfort, many people have opted for filler reversal to start fresh. Here is a list of celebrities who’ve gotten their filler dissolved and shared their experiences of hitting rewind.

What is filler dissolver?

According to New York dermatologist Marina Peredo, MD, expert injectors use hyaluronidase, an enzyme, to break down hyaluronic acid-based fillers commonly used to enhance the lips, cheeks or under-eye areas. If there are unsatisfactory results or complications such as lumps, asymmetry, or vascular occlusion, they can inject hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler. “Reversing filler is definitely doable as long as it’s not permanent filler or silicone,” she explains.

“It can work instantly” says Rochester, NY dermatologist Lesley Loss, MD. “For example, if there is a bump from filler, it will feel softer immediately. Sometimes, there is temporary swelling after the injection of the hyaluronidase that subsides within a few days, making it harder to see the improvement at that moment. If the filler has inflammation around it, like a reactive nodule or granuloma, it may take a few sessions to observe a difference.”

Angela White

Model and reality star Angela White, formerly known as Blac Chyna, decided to get rid of all of her facial filler in her cheeks, jawline and lips. “Enough is enough. It all has to come out,” she shared with her followers at the time. “Back to the baseline. Honestly, I’m just tired of the look and it’s just not flattering, it’s not what I look like. It totally changed my face. I don’t know why I even did all the fillers,” she said. “Well, I did it because I mean, everybody was doing it. So let this be a lesson. Don’t even do it, y’all. It’s not even worth it,” she continued, while also warning fans that the “snatched face that they want” comes with time and not needles, and that they’ll miss their baby face when they get older.

Courteney Cox

In 2017, Cox told NewBeauty that she dissolved her fillers because she didn’t like the way they made her feel and look. “You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do,” she said, before adding: “I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend.” In an interview in 2023 on the “Gloss Angeles” podcast, she said getting fillers was a “domino effect” that caused her to undergo too many injections. “You don’t realize that you look a little off, so then you keep doing more because you look normal to yourself,” Cox said. “You look in the mirror and go, ‘Oh, that looks good and you don’t realize what it looks like to the outside person.’”

Christina Hall

In 2022, the HGTV star revealed on her Instagram stories that she had her under-eye filler removed. “I had a reaction to under eye filler. Super swollen and it wouldn’t go down with time,” she wrote in one post, calling the swollen photo “scary.” “After dissolving with hyaluronidase and ultrasound frequency treatments to remove all the filler,” she added. “Never again.”

Lilly Ghalichi

The Shahs of Sunset star and Lilly Lashes founder experienced a serious complication with under-eye fillers that led to vascular occlusion. Vascular occlusion compromises circulation to the affected area and can result in skin necrosis (tissue death) or even blindness if blood flow to the eye is compromised. Fortunately, she received prompt treatment, including injections of hyaluronidase to reverse the damage. “After over 1200 units of dissolving solution, 24-hours of no sleep and endless doctors I can’t thank enough that helped me, I’m so happy to say they dissolved filler stuck in my blood vessel.”

Lisa Hochstein

Bravolebrity Lisa Hochstein made the decision to dissolve more than half of her facial fillers, revealing her choice when The Real Housewives of Miami returned for Season 4 in 2021. “I’m very aware I had too much filler in my face. I’ve removed a lot of it since we wrapped. I was addicted…thankfully it can be reversed,” tweeted Hochstein in late December. On Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked Hochstein about the removal. “I have removed maybe 60 percent of the filler,” she replied. “Can you tell? I definitely overdid it. I had an addiction and when watching the show, I saw it and was horrified.”

Huda Kattan

The Huda Beauty founder has been open about dissolving her fillers, specifically mentioning the decision to dissolve the filler in her top lip. This choice was influenced by her dissatisfaction with the outcome of lip fillers, leading her to reverse the procedure. “From my personal experience, I don’t actually think I got the benefit that I was looking for. I wanted my lips to look bigger, but I don’t think I was looking for that plumpness, I think I was just looking for more width, more height,” said Kattan. Despite comparing the pain of dissolving her fillers to that of childbirth, Huda revealed that she is much happier with her new lips, “I look more natural and so much better.” Huda added that she can get the effect she always wanted just by overlining her lips with liner.

Lottie Moss

Model Lottie Moss, half-sister to Kate, took to Instagram in 2023 to reveal she had all her lip filler, which was placed in 2019, dissolved. “I can’t laugh because it hurts,” she shared on her stories, before adding that she paid 450 pounds to get the fillers and the same price to get them dissolved. She shared that she underwent a painful procedure to dissolve her face fillers and said she was happy with the decision to embrace a more toned-down look.
