Is Hydrodermabrasion The Next Big Skin Care Craze?

It looks like the popular skin-clearing treatment, microdermabrasion, has some serious competition. Know as the “celebrity facial,” hydrodermabrasion is the latest and greatest way to remove dead cells from the skin to eliminate dark spots and hyperpigmentation. With less pain and irritation than the traditional diamond-tipped treatment, this new technology uses water and oxygen to effortlessly exfoliate the skin. Its no wonder the treatment is reportedly a favorite of celebrity stunners like Charlize Theron.

"[It's] one the most dynamic skin treatments currently on the market," says Los Angeles expert aesthetician Gina Mari. It doesn't pose the risk for irritation and it allows your dermatologist or aesthetician to treat the skin when it is most susceptible for product penetration. According to Mari, the treatment features what beauty pros call Dermalinfusion, “which is a non-invasive exfoliation and product delivery system." The short of it? A skin care professional can choose specific products tailored to each individual’s needs and then use them during the treatment for maximum results. "For example, a salicylic for someone suffering from acne prone skin or a vitamin C for general anti-aging concerns," says Mari.

West Palm Beach, FL, dermatologist Kenneth Beer, MD, also has good things to say about hydrodermabrasion, however, he does warn that it doesn't work as vigorously on the skin as the tiny, rough aluminum crystals of microdermabrasion. "It is not as penetrating as microdermabrasion or as abrasive so it is not as efficient at exfoliating, but it also does not carry the risks that microdermabrasion has with redness and irritation."

So who is it best for? Sensitive skin types that might not be able to handle the harshness of heavy exfoliation will love this gentler option. Also, "someone that wants to shine for a big event," says Dr. Beer, as the treatment is known for giving a red carpet-worthy  "glow."

As with any treatments it all depends on what we are trying to address - Hydrodermabrasion is a fabulous pampering treatment - Great for those that have an event that evening and want to look their best, or a great for in between peels and more invasive procedures - There is room for a lot of different treatments today - It all depends on what we are targeting/ addressing and so on - It's always best to go for a consultation and have the patients understand what options they have and all the pro and cons - Pretty much anyone can benefit from this treatment - The question is are they going to be pleased with the results? Or are they looking for much more than a pampering hydrodermabrasion can offer??? As always follow @SKINCAREXPERT for beauty tips and more!!!!!!
