We see lots of pictures of celebrities—sometimes with makeup on the red carpet or without makeup on their way to pick up their kids or out for a morning coffee. And while most are beautiful either way, some are exceptionally gorgeous. One of these women is Andie MacDowell. At 54, whether bare-faced or with a full face of makeup, this actress and model is picture perfect.
To find out her secrets (so we could steal them), we went straight to her makeup artist and a celebrity aesthetician to find out what it is that keeps Andie on top of her anti-aging A-game.
Andie’s complexion is void of sun and age spots and discoloration, a major factor that keeps her looking so youthful. “At 54, Andie looks incredible! Although it’s extremely hard not to have any signs of sun damage at her age, she appears to be taking exceptional care of her skin—it’s youthful and glowing,” says celebrity aesthetician Gina Marí.
While she may not suffer from discoloration, she does have mature skin, which is still faced with age-related concerns. Celebrity aesthetician Kate Somerville says treatments like Titan can help keep skin glowing and looking youthful. “It tightens the dermis and stimulates collagen with no downtime.”
If you are looking for topical treatments to treat aging skin like Andie’s, “Plant stem cells are the new weapon in defying the signs of aging for more mature skin,” says Lexandra Berchik, lead aesthetician at Bliss LA. “They trigger the body’s own stem cell activity to produce new cell activity to decrease the look of wrinkles and tightening and firming.”
“Andie is a natural beauty so I always use the ‘less-is-more’ approach when I’m working with her. A little bit of foundation on clean, moisturized skin leaves her looking fresh and flawless,” says L’Orèal Paris consulting makeup artist Collier Strong.
Strong says too much powder can accentuate fine lines, so go light. “I like to use a flush of color on her cheeks to bring the skin to life,” he adds. He draws attention to her lips with bright shades of matching gloss.
Andie is known for her gorgeous eyes, which are easy to draw attention to. “To keep her eyes as big as possible I use several coats of black mascara,” says Strong. “A medium-toned eye shadow in the creases of her lids helps to define them without making her look overly made up.”
