The no-makeup movement is gaining momentum, with stars like Pamela Anderson regularly embracing bare-faced beauty on the red carpet and beyond. But for some, the decision to go makeup-free comes with personal reasons. Enter Amy Adams, who recently told People that she ditched the glam for years to honor a request from her teenage daughter, Aviana.
“She didn’t like me wearing makeup,” the 50-year-old actress told the outlet. “She’s like, ‘I just want you to look like Mom, not like Amy Adams.’ And I was like, ‘You got it.’ So there were years where I didn’t wear makeup wherever we went. I mean, I sneaked some mascara. But yeah, I wouldn’t wear makeup because she wanted me to be just mom.”
But for Adams, simplifying her routine wasn’t a stretch. After all, she admits she’s always the “last person to get ready” in her household and that Aviana and her husband, Darren Le Gallo, get ready first. “I will help my daughter get ready. My husband will get ready,” she explained. “I will be helping her, I run around or I braid her hair. And I’m always the last person to get ready…. usually [on my end] there’s a ponytail involved, maybe a hat and I think it’s been that way since she was born.”
These days, the Enchanted star says she’s still “usually the least manicured” in her household, but Aviana is inspiring a subtle style upgrade. “Lately, per my daughter’s request, I’m working on an upgrade. She’s like, ‘You can’t wear workout clothes if you’re not working out, Mom,’” says Adams. “‘You can’t just do the leisure part of athleisure.’” Honestly, we, too, could benefit from a little Aviana-style motivation.
