Between the person sitting next to you who may have forgotten to shower this morning to the stale coffee still sitting in the seat-back pocket, planes aren’t exactly the place where good smells come to convene.

But what if that re-circulated air was fragranced? Would it make the flight more enjoyable—or would you be bothered by it?

As the DailyMail reports, we may already be in the midst of this trend.

“Some commercial planes already release scent into the air on flights, but more and more airlines are now following suit to provide an improved experience for passengers” The Mail reported. “It is thought that a signature smell will promote brand loyalty among travellers, as an airline scent will help to remind them of previous trips with an airline.”

The article also points out that airlines are already doing interesting, only-unique-to-them things with scent: Turkish Airlines has had a signature scent since 2013; Delta utilizes a spa-like lavender and chamomile scent they call ‘Calm,’ while Spain’s Iberia airline spritzes a citrus fragrance in its aeroplane cabins

Since fragrance is known to help improve mood and lessen anxiety, this is one subtle change that may make your flight experience more pleasant.
