We love to spend the better half of the weekend pampering ourselves since we deserve it, don’t we? A hectic workweek can leave anyone lusting after some TLC. However, it is important to know that not all primping and prodding go that well together—at least not within a 24-hour period of receiving injectables.

According to Beverly Hills, CA, aesthetician Gina Mari, injectables need to set before someone can rub your skin (as they do in facials). If you receive injections of neurotoxins like Botox or Dysport, West Palm Beach, FL, dermatologist Kenneth Beer, MD recommends waiting a few days (two or three) just to be safe. “There are two reasons—some facialists press harder than others and I would not want someone to move around the Botox before it has time to be absorbed,” he says.

As for fillers like Juvéderm, Restylane and Belotero, a day is plenty of time to wait before having a facial. “I think that as long as you wait for a day or two, it is not a problem to get a facial after fillers. The reason is that most fillers are pretty forgiving and will not be moved or dented unless someone is really mashing down on your face. I would avoid a facial for up to a week if there is swelling, bruising or cold sores, as these can be tender and indicate that more time is needed for healing,” says Dr. Beer.

The good news is that it isn’t long to wait. Some women worry that getting a facial two months after injectables can change the look, but that’s not true. Save your facial for a week after your dermatologist appointment and you should be fine.
